Default The decline of the Trop...

I used to be a fan of the Trop in AC, decent games & room overall, quieter than Taj & Borg...

...That has all changed now. On a midweek session recently I noticed that the Trop is in serious need of upgrades.
Their old sign-in dry erase board was falling apart, the desk person then yells at the top of their lungs asking the floor if there's an open seat. The place has always been knocked for being dimly lit, but it's getting darker. The little green carts that they put the food on are just everywhere for you to trip over, and they're usually covered with trash also. The place looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a month, there was garbage all over the floor. There were A LOT of grouchy dealers too, they were all griping about a mass firing of floor people/managers.

Autoshufflers on all of the tables would be nice, and maybe have a designated tournament area, away from the racebook. How about another beer besides Natty Light ? Oh, BTW the "legendary" pink chip game had only one game going all day. They mainly spread 1/2NL, 2/4, & 1/5 7CS. They had one table of 4/8, 5/10 7CS, & pink chip. I used to really like this place, but in the matter of a year or so it has really gone downhill.

BTW, the Taj with it's recent upgrades (new chairs, carpet, TV's, autoshufflers, electronic sign-in list) looks like a palace compared to the Trop now. If they could only get some new clean chips...

Trop has never been one of my favorite places, but at least you can still get poker rate rooms there....$99 on Friday night is a pretty good deal.

I will be there most of next week....hopefully playing in the pink chip game when it's running. Were they not spreading 2/5 NL? Because I was hoping to finally move up from 1/2 NL if I run good my first couple days.

Nick,

The Trop spreads 1-2 2-5 5-10 no limit on a daily basis. The Trop speads a $10-$20 game most weekends. The game fluctuated between $10-$20 and $10-$25 depending on who starts the interest list.

I've always thought the Trop was kinda trashy, but continued to go there anyway. I feel like I play my best game there. But you're right, lately it has been getting kinda gross....drinks NEVER come (and I drink water + soda...wtf?)....and the past two times I've gone they had some temperature control problems. Like it was literally freezing at one table for like an hour...I was playing with my jacket on, lol.

I started playing at the Taj, which is a little better I suppose. Still dirty. Not a fan of the Borg's chips, which is the primary reason I dont like playing there.

I need a regular room, Trop used to be it...

Glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. Borgata is by far the best place in AC for tournaments, but they are my third or fourth choice for cash games because the chips are so difficult to handle.

Yeah, but the Borg chairs are way more comfortable for my fat butt, so this more than makes up for the chips.

Primary? Really!?

So you avoid a room that many players consider the best in the country because the chips are a bit slippery?

I don't get it. Perhaps you can explain more...

I'm not the one who posted this, but I agreed with him.

If you are playing in low limit games that are spread everywhere, and are fishy everywhere, what exactly is a better reason to like or dislike a room than the chips?

I can play 1/2 NL in a comfortable, nice looking room and get bottles of free Corona at both Borgata and Hilton. But I love the chips at Hilton and hate the chips at Borgata. Where do you think I am going to play? Of course, for those times when I want to play 10/20 Limit, I need to make a different choice.

Apropos of nothing, the last time I was at the Taj it looked like they had rotated in a new set of red chips. The key clue was that the chips no longer stuck together.

On a whim, I once took two $1 chips home from the Taj and spent about an hour cleaning one with alcohol and a little bleach and then comparing it to the other, uncleaned chip. The uncleaned chip was a dull to dark gray and the cleaned chip was blindingly white. The moral: always wash your hands after playing.
