Questions about the Orleans Poker Room
I'm going to Vegas in two weeks. Has anyone been to the Orleans poker room since the latest renovations have been done? Also, how soft is the 4/8 O8 game?

Re: Questions about the Orleans Poker Room
I played the orleans all summer when I wasn't at the rio during the series.
I thought the omaha game was one of the most miserable games I've ever played in my life. They are all vegas regulars who are miserable people. Not saying all regulars in vegas are miserable. Just this group of unfortunate degenerates. They criticize the dealers, the floor is called regularly because they complain so much, the dealers don't like working the game cause its filled with a bunch of stiffs. To make it worse the game doesn't have much action. You know---it might be action filled but between all the bitching only five hands get dealt per hour. I'd rather eat a pound of broken glass than play in this game. On a positive note. They did have a ton of tourney action and a HORSE game got kicking some of the nights---don't know if this is because of the series or if it's a regular game. They will start an interest list if you ask. If that game gets going it's money in the bank! Hope you get some comic relief outta this post but you can find me in the parking lot eating broken glass if I ever sit in that game again. |

It wasn't because you were at the Orleans, it was because you were playing Omaha/8. |

Re: Questions about the Orleans Poker Room
It can be good if you catch it on the right bounce. The game is populated by regulars, many of whom are sitting around trying to earn comp dollars by playing with as little variance as possible. The good news is that they tilt fairly easily.
If you go during busy periods, you have the best chance of finding the games good. Count the tables. If there is only one, it will probably suck. If there are two, there is a 75% chance that both will suck. If there are three or more, it's better than even money that one of them has been infiltrated and has some good action. If you want to play $10-$20 with the same miserable crew, go to the Wynn. |

Re: Questions about the Orleans Poker Room/Follow up Question
Ok gang, I was thinking about suprising my wife with a trip to Las Vegas in February. The Orleans was high on my list but it looks like it has declined in reputation on this forum. Given that, looking for a moderate priced casino with a poker room. Here are the ones I was thinking about:
1) Sahara 2) Monte Carlo 3) Gold Nugget Any thoughts or other suggestions...jb |

Re: Questions about the Orleans Poker Room/Follow up Question
Not sure what kinda budget you're on, but Sahara is NOT going to impress the little woman. That's a place college students go to (or me, 'cause I'm cheap and single and all I need is a bed and about 30 minutes of TV at the end of the day to suck the brainwaves out before sleep).
Monte Carlo is the clear winner for a trip with your wife. Nugget is a nice enough hotel, but there is NOTHING else downtown to please your wife. MC has a small poker room that's ok (nothing bigger than NL1/2 and 4/8, and often just NL1/2 and 2/4). But you've got easy access to MGM for slightly bigger games. There's nothing to the immediate north except construction, and that could be a downside--folks report sometimes the noise from City Center going up is unpleasant in the guest rooms. Harrah's, Flamingo, and Bally's tend to be middle-classish, and have a nicer central location, and shouldn't disappoint the chick in your life. Check those out. I'd pick 'em in preference to MC, not because they are nicer (I think MC may be a tad nicer, actually) but they will be quieter and much better located. |
