College hoops and college football are huge, with many fans claiming they like college more than pro. MLB is huge in this country. Why is college baseball so far behind the other college sports?
I almost feel like people care more about college hockey than they do about college baseball. Why is America's pastime all but ignored at the college level, while college football and college basketball are religiously adored? |

Because almost none of the best 18-22 year old baseball players in the world are playing college ball.

Also fan involvement in basketball and football college sports is obv way better than baseball. The experience of being with Cameron Crazies, etc etc. cannot be matched in college baseball.

Because almost none of the best 18-22 year old baseball players in the world are playing college ball. [/ QUOTE ] This is part of it. I think there are two other factors. 1.) Say a guy goes to college, stars, plays really well and gets drafted in the first round say after his junior year. He might not make it to the majors for another 4 to 5 years. But in football and basketball the dude will probably be playing in the league that year and probably starting by the following year. It is hard to remember players from 5 years ago. Part of the thrill of college basketball and football is seeing the stars of tomorrow today. But that doesn't work if we can't remember who played what 5 years ago. 2.) 60+ game schedule. College football has like a 12-15 game schedule making every game extremely important. College basketball has a 30 game schedule plus playoffs. And the first 10-12 noncon games often are not that important. It is hard to follow a team over a long time period like that. |

trapsetter -
college basketball and football were established well before the pro version was. college baseball was not, and has the minor leagues to compete with. |

A lot of the fans of the big schools don't really care that much how great their players do after college. Ohio State fans are Ohio State fans. Mid-major schools who have very few players go on to the pros still have fairly popular football and basketball programs also. |
