So on Sunday, June 11, I hit a deer on I-35 at mile marker 24 (In Iowa) slowing down from 82 MPH on cruise to around 40-45 miles per hour when I hit it
The deer had crossed at some time into the median which was pretty deep at that point and had 2 foot high grass, the deer then found the need to jump out in front of my car and due to the 45 foot dropoff on my right, I wasnt going to try anything to crazy So I got a call from insurance, looks like its not totaled, $4600 in damage.... I guess that is under half of the NADA value so no salvage title either which is sweet... now only if i could sell it for NADA value... This mainly sucks as I was going to buy a new car this month, now I have to wait 3 weeks or so to get my car back which means the new car will happen in July.... Im also not sure if I killed the deer - there was a 40 foot drop down this steep hill into some woods and im pretty sure it probably just went down in there and died.... or maybe it got lucky, who knows.... ![]() |

[/ QUOTE ] If I would have killed it and stayed on the road this would be been possible, my dad has been a big deer hunter for years and when he came to get me with his truck it would have been an easy pick up - plus deer is good... |

one time my friend's dad was driving home from work or something and a deer jumped over the truck and dented the roof in.
i also heard that a lot of deer dont die when they get hit. they just get up and walk away. |

If you don't want the deer, report it to the local police department. In some areas they keep lists for people willing to come and haul it away for meat.
I grew up in a small rural town in the Midwest. One year we hit a deer on Christmas Eve. We were just outside of another small town so we doubled back to report it. They called the first guy on a waiting list that must have had 20 names on it. Four more people dropped by during the 10 minutes we were there to see if the deer was claimed. It was gone when we drove back by on the way home. |

Here's mine from about a month ago.
It was about 70 mph, but a younger, smaller doe, so the damage doesn't belie how hard we hit it. http://f3.yahoofs.com/users/4248477b...I7LmEBHYpUpjLs http://f3.yahoofs.com/users/4248477b...I7LmEBPCoHNkGs |

Effing deer are a menace. Glad you didn't get hurt.
What time of night did this happen? Also, why was your cruise at 82 when the speed limit on that stretch is 70? You wanna ticket or somethin'? It's not like Iowa cops have anything better to do. |
