Re: Line check - flopped boat.
Consistent with his bad habit of always slow-playing monsters and trying to be clever, Hero checks.
UTG+1 bets $20. Folds to SB, who calls. Hero raises to $45. UTG+1 and SB call the additional $25. Turn ($147): 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] SB bets $100. Hero? |

Re: Line check - flopped boat.
Yes- I'd be calling all-in for my last $93. My first reaction was that it was a no-brainer instacall. But on reflection, I had a couple concerns:
(1) SB had been playing extremely tight. He folded to almost every bet post-flop. Not only did he call a bet of nearly 2-times the pot from UTG+1, but he called my small re-raise, which would have looked suspicious to him coming from a fellow tightwad. This tells me that he has a big piece of this flop. (2) UTG+1 has been unable to lay any hand down after investing in the pot. When the turn card comes, SB knows UTG+1 is calling or raising any bet. He bets $100 anyway. Is 99 just too unlikely here for me to be worried? Are (1) and (2) just over-thinking a simple situation? Also, I forgot to ask about my raise to $45. Given relative pot sizes/stack sizes, should that have been a shove? A smooth call? |

Re: Line check - flopped boat.
reasons why checking the flop is bad.
-you want to start building a pot and betting in a way that you can get as much money as possible in by the end of the hand, checking the flop and then minraising the turn is a terrible way to get value and just screams 'i want action, please put money in the pot', seriously, are you ever doing this with air? I highly doubt it. - this board is very draw heavy, if anyone has 2 spades, JT, T7 or 67 you want to bet now so that they have to put money in now, because if you wait until they see that their draw doesn't hit you wont get any money out of them, you have to bet and get them to put in money to see those cards, you don't want to make bets that will fold out draws, but you need to bet something. |

Jesus tap-dancing christ.
If you're gonna c/r, make it something not girly, something around 55-60 works. Rather lead 10 and get value from all draws. |

[/ QUOTE ] At the risk of getting ridiculed further--> If I raise $60, I'll only have a half-pot-sized bet (or smaller) left. Wasn't the choice here between calling or shoving? |
