Might have some vacation I have to kill Jan 2 - 5 and my previous plan of a group trip to Vegas might be dead. Would there be much action going on if I went to Atlantic City or Tunica (or even Vegas for that matter I guess). I'm coming from NC. Suggestions?
I'm sure I'll be happy with NL action anywhere, but would appreciate some decent mid-limit limit action as well (10/20 to 20/40 range.) I like cheap hotels (either because it's cheap or because I can get a discounted poker rate) and being able to get around without renting a car. I like to at least make enough at poker to pay for my expenses (flight, hotel etc.) That means either softer games or lower expenses :-) If I went to Tunica I'd stay at the Gold Strike again. Buffet comps and poker rate make it very cheap. I've done Vegas and have some ideas. I've never been to Atlantic City. But in general, wondering if it would be dead during that particular week/weekend. TIA |

two big tournys in tunica at this time, the wsop circuit event at grand casino tunica jan 3-22 and a world poker open at the gold strike jan 3-23. this will for sure add all kinds of action tournament and cash games.
the circuit event offers lower buyins in the 300-500$ range. not sure about the open. plenty of options sounds like in tunica the week u r going! |

Why not come here to LA. The weather should be good and you can't go wrong with the number of card rooms.

There's always action in Atlantic City, and rates are lower in the winter months. I'm usually only there on the weekends, though, and I don't know about that week in particular.
I understand that there is usually at least one game higher than 80-160 on Friday nights at the Borgata. |

On Vegas strip, Excalibur seems to be one of the best deals I could find. You have to be willing to play $1/3 there for 5 hours a day to get the rate, but you'd be looking at something like $49 weekdays up to something like $99 weekends. Even on their web site, Jan 2-5 isn't expensive (New Year's crowd is gone I guess). $61-$131.
I couldn't figure out why the rates went way up for Sunday and even Monday nights - I suspected some sort of convention but my friend suggested NFL playoffs. Jan 6 (Sunday) is $151, Jan 7 (Monday) is $201, Jan 13 and 14 are $61 respectively (these are standard web site rates.) You might think the Excalibur is tacky, but hey - if all you do is sleep there, it's a good strip location and a perfectly comfortable room. |
