Halo 3: Always matched against people much better
A few of my friends come over basically every night (we're neighbors) and we play Halo 3 on xbox live (Unit 674 incase you've run into us) We have 4 people on the same screen, and our rank was I guess Seargent grade whatever the highest is for that rank. We ALWAYS get pitted against people with two stars or three stars, always people much higher than us in rank, for the past week. Our team is filled out by people lower in rank than us. Its like this every game, and while we're all pretty darn good at the game, we can't beat these commanders and brigadiers and colonels. Anyone know why we're getting set up this way? It's so frustrating playing against people and getting raped.

Is that really what it is? This is something new, it was never like that before.

Re: Halo 3: Always matched against people much better
that rank is just total games played... it does not relate to actual skill like the level numbers do.
The game matches you against similar skill level players, not people who play the same amount as you. Unfortunately this is unavoidable in social matches where there is no skill level. You guys should seriously be better than them if you're all in the same room with perfect communication. |

Re: Halo 3: Always matched against people much better
I would think there is a fairly strong correlation between games played and skill level; as more games are played (increase in rank) peoples skill level rises.
We assumed that it was matching us against similar skill level, but how is the skill level determined? I ask because its always us with 1 or 2 really bad players on our team, versus 5 players as good or better than us (and I think we're all really good). What are "level numbers"? Thanks |

Re: Halo 3: Always matched against people much better
As I've said, and others have before me, rank means nothing. There are guys which huge number of games that just suck dick. People with high skill levels compared to low games played are very good.

Re: Halo 3: Always matched against people much better
Ok since this thread is completely derailed could someone explain how to handle someone being directly behind you in this [censored] game. I've just started playing a Halo game for the first time really (also my first console FPS) but it seems like being behind someone is a much bigger advantage than it is in any other FPS. I just can't turn around quickly and maintain speed. Maybe I just suck with the controller but it seems like everyone has this problem, anyone have any tips? Or am I just going to have to suck it up?
Also I really enjoy the game but the map selection and design is really really weak. They need to get map packs out asap or I'm just going to stop playing. I've gotten like 100 deathmatch games in and I"m pretty much sick of every small/medium sized map. |

They are working on new maps right now. Also, try downloading some map variations from bungie.net.
The major advantage you have is firing the first shot. Very little your opponent can do on his own to kill you if you get a decent head start. |

[/ QUOTE ] Turn your look sensitivity up (mines @ 7, default is @ 3), jump and turn around. Try to get around a corner and crouch. In H3 (much more than H2) getting the jump isn't always the necessary thing. Knowing your surroundings will get you much further in this game than H2 IMO. |
