How does a book determine if you\'re a sharp?
I really know nothing about this, I originally thought a book would only adjust someone's lines if they were a big winner, betting a large amount per game etc, but a friend of mine has different lines than I do, and he bets very small, so do they just change them whenever you go a winning streak?

[/ QUOTE ] Bodog, for example, shades toward faves to take advantage of the public. If you bet mostly/entirely their artificially inflated dog lines, they start dealing you their sharp (aka normal) lines. Otherwise they are printing money for you, whether you bet a little or a lot. Other books probably work along the same lines - it isn't rocket science. |

OT: I'd be curious to hear what fixed amount the forum vets would pay to have guaranteed eternal access to bodog's square lines with bodog's current bet limits.

I havent heard of lines changing for different users, |

Re: How does a book determine if you\'re a sharp?
correct me if I am wrong, but does that mean if dealt the sharp lines at home, one could goto a coffee shop(get new ip?)and be dealt the square lines again?

Re: How does a book determine if you\'re a sharp?
Cat is incorrect.
Bodog (and most other sites) deal sharp lines by account, regardless of IP. Your behavior there gets flagged as sharp (primarily betting primarily the underdogs which are shaded towards) and that account is flagged as sharp. If you clear your cookies and log out you can get the square lines again, until you log in again. IP-based tracking is a less than effective way to do differentiation, based on the prevalence of regional ISPs who dynamically assign from a pool of addresses. And the ease of getting a new IP, as you mention Not to say if you're consistently accessing the sportsbook from two separate accounts from the same IP they won't also notice -- the online security teams are relatively active for the sportsbooks, just less so than the poker side. -P |

Re: How does a book determine if you\'re a sharp?
books can look at your bet history
how much do you bet, are you hammering rogue lines, are you consistently beating the closing line, do you steam chase, etc. as for Bodog I'd pay like $2500. It is worth more in terms of getting like 1% edge per bet, but I don't see the point in paying for something you can get for free elsewhere. The square lines aren't that much different and not on any bettors top 25 list of things they care about. People make such a production over this and it's a complete waste. |
