Default Check out Joe Morgan\'s ESPN Chat today!

I don't want to post what he said, in case I'm not allowed to, but he harps on about how stats like OPB doesn't tell how a player helps a team. I think you need insider to read the chat though. But it's well worth the laugh.

It is very hard for me to comprehend how he keeps his job as an analyst and commentator.

I'm addicted to FJM.

Joe once said "I don't get this OPS stuff they do."

WTF. Then I belive he went on to say that a player is only valuable if he gets on base and hits for power. And he's only valuable on base if he does stuff on base (like stealing and messing up the rhythm of the pitcher), ie: things Joe used to do.

"This OPS stuff they do." lol.

It's weird, Joe Morgan has said before that he thinks stats are bad. Then he explains why batting average doesn't work, because it doesn't account for players who walk more or players who hit for power.

He's just threatened by the fact that people who didn't play pro ball have a better understanding of aspects of it than he does.

there are brief flashes where it seems like he intuitively understands the importance of certain ideas, like getting on base and scoring runs, patience, power (i.e. stuff he did well as a player) combine that with his understanding of how the game is played (i.e. how an infielder fields the ball and how he should turn a double play, what a hitter does with his backfoot, etc.) then you get the impression where he could be a pretty good commentator.
but then 3 minutes later completely dismisses or nullifies anything he says by saying something that completely contradicts himself or is downright retarded.
