scary board but I\'m not sure he has it
Villain in this hand is unknown to me. This is his third orbit and he hasn't seen any showdowns so far. He has been aggressive so far.

Re: scary board but I\'m not sure he has it
i might have fastplayed on the flop but as played, what beats you? As8s, 88, top set, or a highly unlikely flopped straight. if your opponent has you beat with one of these hands, top set is the most likely. There isn't much else your opponent could have been betting. A flopped straight is highly unlikely obviously, so i think you have to call. if he turns over top set or an unlikely straight like 88 or some other funky 8 then oh well - it just doesn't seem that likely that your opponent would have been pushing an 8 so hard on the turn unless he had As8s and picked up spades on the turn or kept pushing hard with 88. Other than these scenarios or some other unlikely 8 (that your opponent played hard on the flop), it looks like "3rd set" is good here.

Re: scary board but I\'m not sure he has it
Can I get some help from the daytime crew please? This was a weird spot.
To the flop shovers: what better hands is he folding? I can probably only beat a total airball, and since I'm putting money in on the turn he has to be ready to 3-barrel to fold me out. I think calling is better in this situation. |

Re: scary board but I\'m not sure he has it
i'd 3b flop. you're oop with a decent equity/bad implied odds hand. Forget that whole "he doesn't call with worse/fold better" this is about protecting your equity in the pot.
river? bleh i think it's a fold. |

Re: scary board but I\'m not sure he has it
I just get it in on the flop. We have decent equity a long with some fold equity. We probably don't have the greatest implied odds either.

Re: scary board but I\'m not sure he has it
As played you have to fold the river. You have a good bluff catcher but you don't know anything on this guy to start making this calldown. I'm not so sure the 3-bet on the flop is the best as others are suggesting, but it isn't a line I hate either.

Re: scary board but I\'m not sure he has it
Ironically, probably the only pocket pair that doesn't 3-bet this preflop is 88.

Re: scary board but I\'m not sure he has it
Also, I like both a flop 3-bet as well as a call. On the river, I'm probably calling (but Im starting to think I call too lightly on the river).

Re: scary board but I\'m not sure he has it
I am a calling station, but I would never call that river. Flop decision is more interesting - it really depends whether you 3 bet or just call.
