10nl weak ace turned fd multiway
Hey all, first time poster, but i've been a lurker/old content reader/struggling beginner for a while now. I'm starting to work my way up the micro nl on stars, just started 10nl and couldnt really get anything going after 1000 hands today (-$15). Anyway, I seem to find myself in spots where I think I have the best hand but I cant bring myself to bet/raise because of so many unknowns. Heres an example:
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) MP3 ($4.65) CO ($9.90) Hero ($11.20) SB ($5.15) BB ($4.20) UTG ($13.15) UTG+1 ($1.95) MP1 ($4.60) MP2 ($18.70) Preflop: Hero is Button with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG calls $0.10, UTG+1 calls $0.10, 2 folds, MP3 calls $0.10, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.10, 1 fold, BB checks. Flop: ($0.55) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players) BB checks, UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, MP3 checks, Hero checks. Turn: ($0.55) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players) BB bets $0.1, UTG calls $0.10, UTG+1 folds, MP3 calls $0.10, Hero calls $0.10. River: ($0.95) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players) BB bets $0.6, UTG folds, MP3 folds, Hero raises and gets shown 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I think the result isnt that important but I feel like my hands are tied in spots like this, maybe due to conflicting pieces of advice floating around in my head. Should I have bet the flop? Is a semibluff raise into the field bad on the turn? I reasoned no on both counts in case a set or somesuch was trapping, as i think lots of people do at these limits. Clearly taking the blatant pot odds on the turn isnt 'wrong' but i dont know if it is best. I feel like these kind of spots leave me with a hand i wont bet and wont fold and i end up playing it in the weakest way possible (and losing money / leaving money on the table). Whats the rule of thumb here, "man up and take the variance" or "dont bet less than a set 5 ways" or "played okay, thats poker, enjoy." I'm pretty sure the river raise is bad, but it was the tail end of one of my longest sessions yet (3 hours 8 tables) but feel free to abuse me for it anyway. Wow, thanks if you made it through that ramble, and hopefully i'll get better at posting here even if i still suck at poker. |

Re: 10nl weak ace turned fd multiway
Well, you know he doesnt have a draw that missed when he fires the river into 5 ppl or w/e. I would make a small (1/2 pot) bet on the flop, and go from there. fold if raised, check turn if called and play river.
As it is, I make turn ~$1, since I really dont believe people have much here. Flop check is sinful by anyone with a big hand here. If you think your made hand is better than his made hand on the river, raise, otherwise, call. I dont really think a raise is very optimal though, because you lose to AT/53/sets and beat Ax/worse 2pr... |

I would have lost a lot of money here.

Re: 10nl weak ace turned fd multiway
gimmetheloot: Thanks for the breakdown. If i still checked the flop and raised to $1 on turn, i fold to a 3bet right? I dont think theres any better hands i can push out, maybe a better ace but those would (should?) have made a move by the turn. How about calling the 3bet and digging for hearts on the river if it leaves, say, 2x the pot behind?
grunch: You bet I did. I was 'sure' i had it so i pushed it and got taken. |
