Rockford Charity Poker??

Anyone have any experience with these events? What was your experience, good, bad, ok?? I'm concerned about what exactly you win?

I am not really interested in playing in a $100+ buy in event and winning gift cards.

Not sure about the Rockford game but I'm headed out to Resorts East Chicago this weekend again, Saturday afternoon/evening. If you want to play at an actual casino instead, let me know. Maybe we can get a meal or something.

I've heard things about the cash games they run. Things like $7 max rake and tips being dropped as extra rake.

If what I've heard is correct, stay clear the hell away from it.

No no no, they changed everything around there due to lack of clientele. Althouth the max BI at the 1/2NL game is $150, and $300 for the 2/5NL it's well run. They also ditched the $250 max cashout rule also (well from what a dealer told me) Every fish in the area goes to these things thinking they will be the next champion. Oh and don't go there asking for NL....say are you running a 1/2 or 2/5 TOURNAMENT game. They don't want the cops breking down the doors.

Also, the max rake is 5 dollars. They were thinking of changing it to a time rake but that idea got thrown out of the window.

If you live in the city, wait for one in arlington heights or des plaines unless you like driving.

Anyone confirm they got rid of the $250 cashout rule?

I haven't played at this thing in awhile. Mainly because of that.

The rake isnt really any worse than that of a normal casino. The place isnt bad at all i was there a couple weeks ago. Their sit n go tables and tournaments i think are a waste of time but the ring games, although somewhat small tend to be very good. The common stakes there are 2/5t 1/2t and normally 1-3 spread and 2-5 spread, the last one i went to there were no tables of 2-5 but they did have 2 4/8 limit game going. Theyll run any stake as long as theres a high enough demand for it.

Its a friendly environment the only downside to this place is the dealers are very off and on. There are some really good ones and some pretty bad ones. I guess thats a lot like the casino but I havent had any problem ever going. Its a fun place, get there around 5-9,10 since thats when the most traffic is and best table selection

I sometimes go to these events. Do any other 2+2'ers go? I've seen about four half-way decent players out of the whole lot so I don't think too many do.

I go to these events all the time, and I'll clear up some confusion. The MAX buy-in for 1/2 is $150 and $300 for 2/5 which was already stated. You CAN cashout for ANY ammount, you just need to fill out multiple cards which is perfectly LEGIT and the cashier people will understand. I've cashed out $900 before(brag) with no problems at all. I think the rule is there just to clarify to the feds or whoever that it is a charity run casino. The staff is very down to earth and NEVER uptight about any situation. You never hear the floor being called and instead the players and dealers will talk it out if any problems were to arise. If I can answer anymore question I'll be happy to.

The $250 cashout rule is apparently gone. Rake is still $5 max.

Just went over there last night. It was packed, with about 15 NL tables, split between 1/2 and 2/5 (also had a few 1/3 limit).

The SNG structure is extremely fast; it's basically an all-in fest after the first round.

The quality of play was generally weak. Majority of players extremely over-value hands. I saw a ton of hands that people ended up all in with 3rd or 4th pair and a weak kicker. Inside straight draws and flush draws are all over the place. Lots of overplay with pocket pairs, regardless of overcards on the board.

So, it's a pretty juicy game, but be prepared for the occassional suckout. You'll be amazed at the poor play, so pick your spots and cash in. No need for much bluffing, especially early in the hand. Let the fish come to you.

I have a good friend who lives in Rockford so we go sometimes when I visit.

I played 5/10 limit there once, it was the biggest game they had going and it was about the softest game I've ever played in. 7 ways to a flop was routine, raised or unraised, post-flop play was passive, etc etc.

I also played a tournament, I think it was ~$100 buy-in or so, 3-table shootout. Top 3 from each table went to the final table. I ended up in 3rd for $450, which I had no problem collecting. The play at my first table was horrendous. The final table was a bit weak-tight.

I think they were pretty well run in general. The dealers are all volunteers so they aren't that experienced, but I've seen much worse dealers elsewhere.
