Default Soccer: How about owning your own club?

Tried searching to make sure it hasn't been discussed before and wasn't able to find any results. Thus, I present to you . . .

http://www.myfootballclub.co.uk/

50,000 people plan on bidding on a soccer club. By laying down $72.00, they've generated $3.6M, which will be used to purchase a lower league club in England.

However, that's not the only intriguing part about this whole concept. All decisions will be voted online. Although a manager will be hired, his job is to only motivate the players and scout for the club. Tactics, transfers, and managerial decisions will all be voted on.

Although I can't see this ever occurring here in the US, what are your thoughts on the project? I thought it was a scam initially but the Cambridge United chairman stated he was open for the takeover.

Pretty sure they're not the cheapest franchise - they make a lot of money, actually. The most likely one to buy would probably be the Devil Rays, since there's no way the Marlins would sell.

This team will do terribly.
If they start to achieve even the slightest bit of success the 'owners' will find a way to screw it up.

Yeah...the public (and 50,000 people investing 75 bone is close enough to the public) is very, very bad at being patient and awaiting results from growth/development/chemistry.

Yeah, I don't see the club being promoted. Relegation will more than likely ensue once purchased.

I just signed up. However, they aren't asking for the money until the team is taken over. I hate soccer, but whatever, this is an exact business idea I've seriously considered before (except I was thinking of other sports), so I'll support these guys and see how it goes before I even begin to go through the process of getting something like this going in the US.

BTW, there's only a couple thousand spots left. $75/year isn't bad for the little bit of fun you can have doing this.

Yeah, I was going to include in my original post about baseball truly being the only sport that I could see working. I don't envision soccer as being the proper sport but I do wish this club well.

Obviously, purchasing an MLB club would be out of the question due to not only the cost but due to the current owner's deciding whether someone can purchase a club or not. See Mark Cuban.
