Reno relocation
My wife has the opportunity to interview for a residency with a hospital in Reno. I'm a CPA with an extensive finance background, so finding work would not be a problem. We have a 4 year old son.
What says OOT about living in Reno? Good, bad or indifferent? |

Re: Reno relocation
I lived the first 18 years of my life about an hour away from Reno (I'm 24 now).
I would say that the city has grown to the point where you can get away from most of the shadiness which comes along with it being a "Poor Man's Vegas." There are some decent suburban areas with some nice golf courses and good high schools. Also living there you are very close to amazing places like Lake Tahoe and some national parks. If you like skiing, hiking, camping, watersports, etc. you will be in heaven. From what I understand the town is taking a bit of a hit from all of the Indian casinos that have gone up recently in Northern California. So housing prices should be pretty good. |

Re: Reno relocation
My dad has lived in Reno for about 10 years. He lives in a pretty quiet little neighborhood and got a house at a really good price. I visit him from time to time but mostly stay in the casino area's. I gotta' say for the most part that those area's are kind of pathetic. Some of the people are just degenerates.

Re: Reno relocation
I hear its a pretty good town if you are looking to build a mob empire and have your stupid older brother whacked on the lake.

Re: Reno relocation
I have lived in Reno my whole life and I have to say it has a bad reputation that it does not live up to. It actually is a pleasant place to live and raise a family. There are so many new suburbs being built that it makes is easy to get away from the downtown aspect. The new mayor here in Reno has really cleaned the town up and it keeps getting better. The housing market is really booming, and Reno is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. If you like outdoors this place is perfect for you.

The housing market peaked 16 months ago so god forbid you're holding property you need to flip. If you're buying though, opportunities are everywhere [/ QUOTE ] |
