commuting between cities
very good chance I am going to be working 4 days/week in dc and living in nyc, commuting via amtrak. I've never done anything like this before, and would love to get some thoughts by people that have experience commuting weekly.
my case is probably a little different than most people's because I'll have to rent a room myself, it's not like a lot of consulting gigs where everything is paid for. |

Re: commuting between cities
I sorta do this my GF lives in Buffalo and I go there on the weekends. I mean its a bit diffrent since she has a place. Have you looked into plane fair, if you know the days you are going to travel you can sometimes get a fair that's so close to the trains its worth flying. Like buffalo is an 8 hour train ride for 150. If i do Jetblue ahead of time its 170ish and then its a no brainer.
I dunno if that really helps |

Re: commuting between cities
yeah, nyc -> dc is only 3 hours by train, it's faster and cheaper than flying if you factor in getting to/from the airport, especially during rush hour. do you go every weekend or do you guys trade weekends sometimes?

Re: commuting between cities
My ex-boss, a 70 year-old woman, had a three hour commute.

Re: commuting between cities
I go 99% of the time. When she does come down its for "vacation" She has/had a job where she couldn't get off weekends and since I work 7am-7pm if she came during the week it be a waste.
And yea for sure, I live in the BX so getting to the airport < getting to GC |
