Borgata $500 Day 2: Overpair facing flop C/R from UTG limp/call
16 left in Borgata $500. Villain is ranked 130th in CardPlayer PoY rankings, I haven't played enough with him to really get a sense of his game. I have 390K to start, Villain has me covered, he's around 500K. We're both in the top 3 in chips. 16th pays like $2800, 1st is $87000. Blinds 4000/8000/1000.
Villain limps UTG. I make it 40K with TT. Folded around to Villain, he calls. Flop: 7d 5d 2c. Villain checks, I bet 50K, Villain makes it 125K. Your action? |

I think this is one of those hands where its really impossible to comment unless you provide alot more information about the villain and your own image.

Re: Borgata $500 Day 2: Overpair facing flop C/R from UTG limp/call
how often has he limped? how often has he limp/called a 5x raise? I probably make it closer to 32-3500 pre to avoid bloating the pot too bad. As played, with no other info, I probably fold. Decent chance of AA or KK with the limp. No need for him to l/rr, when guaranteed headsup, c/r any flop probably makes him more. If not AA-KK, decent chance of set, or something like AdQd where you aren't in great shape anyway.

Re: Borgata $500 Day 2: Overpair facing flop C/R from UTG limp/call
Two moves possible imo, depending upon your read, previous hand play etc. etc. Shove or fold. He's probably capable of raising with 2 overcards here, but probably also capable of limping pre-flop with a monster. On balance, I'd probably fold and save my 300K chips for a better spot because even if you read right, shove, and he has 2 overcards, you still aren't a great favorite.

Re: Borgata $500 Day 2: Overpair facing flop C/R from UTG limp/call
I fold here barring a read on villain that he's a lagtard or that you've been overly active
The key here with his move, you're either way behind or only slightly ahead. Barring the above, this is very rarely a smaller overpair or total air imo |

I think we are way ahead a decent percentage (non set pairs, air) that have him drawing to 2-6 outs a lot. |

Re: Borgata $500 Day 2: Overpair facing flop C/R from UTG limp/call
I think all 3 options flat out suck here. He could have AA, KK, a set, a smaller overpair, a flush draw, or just be making a move. I just didn't have enough info on his play to know which was more likely.
I chose to call because: (1) I thought there was a good chance that it would slow him down if I had him beat, since shoving the turn without having me beat would be a hell of a risky play, given where we were in the tournament and that we were 2 of the big stacks; and (2) I thought I would call here if I had AA or KK, hoping to induce a turn shove. I thought that shoving would only get called by a hand crushing you (unless he has a very big draw like AQdd or AJdd -- I can't see him limp/calling UTG with AKdd). And I just couldn't bring myself to fold. Adanthar, I assume you think my pre raise was too big and my flop bet too small relative to the pot. Why? Turn: K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. He shoves. Your action? And just for fun: I played with him for several hours after this, we played a lot of pots together. He's a very good player capable of making lots of moves. If I knew then what I know now, should this hand play out differently? |

He could bet on a draw here but seldom check a set. He thought you miss the flop and c/r you off the hand. |
