Donking away chips on river
Now, this is probably the worst hand I've played lately. I knew that villain made trips on turn, so I potted hoping he will not get there. He got perfect implied odds and I voluntarily payed him out.
My question is: how many hands like this can I afford per 1000 hands to be still winning? Of course it's very silly question, but it must have some more or less decent answer. Full Tilt Poker Pot Limit Omaha Ring game Blinds: $0.05/$0.10 6 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: $5.65 Hero: $12.50 CO: $3.50 Button: $21 SB: $22.35 BB: $1.65 Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is UTG+1 with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG folds, Hero raises to $0.3, CO folds, Button calls, SB calls, BB folds. Flop: 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($1, 3 players) SB checks, Hero bets $0.8, Button calls, SB folds. Turn: 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($2.6, 2 players) Hero bets $2.7, Button calls. River: 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($8, 2 players) Hero bets $8.1, Button calls. Re: Donking away chips on river
How did you know he made trips? You are psychic?
Anyway, bet turn smaller, this is how you would bet if the 8 filled you up. Bet about 1.8 is good. On river I would bet half the pot and fold to a raise. The reasoning here is we might well have the best hand, so it's a value bet. It's also a blocking bet because if he didn't fill up he probably won't raise, and we want to show this hand down. By betting full pot you are making this way too expensive for yourself |

Re: Donking away chips on river
I can see reasons for potting the turn if he'll pay with lower flushes etc, but the chances of him having an 8 aren't all that great.
A pot bet on the river doesn't make much sense except against massive payoff wizards. |

Re: Donking away chips on river
Of course it's easy to say he had trips on turn after seeing the showdown, but I just guessed it after a call on turn. After rethinking it was obvious that he will call pot bet on turn only with full-house, otherwise it was pointless for him to try to draw at all.
Forget about my silly question, I just wonder if I'm loosing due to making big mistakes (like in this hand) too often or just loosing small pots frequently. Can it be somehow taken out using PT? |

Re: Donking away chips on river
The paragraph
[ QUOTE ] After rethinking it was obvious that he will call pot bet on turn only with full-house, otherwise it was pointless for him to try to draw at all. [/ QUOTE ] should be read as: After rethinking it is obvious that he will call pot bet on river only with full-house, and there is no way he will lay down his non-nut full house, because otherwise it was pointless for him to draw at all. |

Re: Donking away chips on river
8/boat isn't a big part of his calling range imo. I like a 1/2 pot blocking/value bet on river
