Linsksys WRTG45 acting up?
I'm bad at networking, and worse at diagnosing when hardware is going bad.
Frequently, my connection gets weak. I cannot access websites. However, I can play poker and use AIM. Recently, about 9:30 at night, my laptop reports little to no connectivity - 11 mb/s, 5.5, down to 1, and then 0. I'm at 54 right now. My desktop (connected via cat-5) has no trouble. Usually, I end up just unplugging my router and plugging it back in, and all works fine. But, this is happening frequently. I'm sitting 3 feet from my router, so it's not a distance issue. Does it sound like my router is crapping out, or is it possible for another network in my apartment building to interfere (I show 5-6 available). |

Re: Linsksys WRTG45 acting up?
If you're only 3 feet from the router, just run a cable to your laptop and you should be good to go. I know it defeats the purpose of having wifi, but so does sitting three feet from the router.
Microwave ovens can also scramble a wifi signal, baby monitors too, etc. |

I had a WRTG ver.2 that would lose wifi signal any time the phone rang.

No cordless phone.
No wireless game controllers. I use the wireless when I go to other rooms. I don't feel like dealing with the cords. |

Re: Linsksys WRTG45 acting up?
Have you tried changing the channel? It's a good idea. Do you live in a dorm/condo/apt building? Or a free-standing house? Even in a house, you can get interference from a neighbor.
Check out the settings for the router and you'll find the channel; it's pretty straight forward. If you don't see it or it doesn't help, let us know. |
