people who should be dead
a few months ago, this guy, Dan (not his actual name), who my mom was reasonably good friends with took his wife, kids, and dog with him on a vacation, and flew them in his new private plane. the plane was nothing fancy, just a little private plane. after takeoff i guess the plane was not climbing because it was overloaded and too heavy (at least this is how it was explained to me), so it crashed and everyone on it died (c'est la vie!), except Dan. Dan was recently released from the hospital after having quadriplegicked himself and killed his family.
anyway, i bring this up because there was a little follow-up bit about him in our local news paper today saying that he was being released from the hospital today. heres an excerpt: [ QUOTE ] Dan wanted to say to his community, "Everything happens for a reason. I'm going to keep on fighting and living my life...." [/ QUOTE ] it goes on but i dont feel like typing it. the community has had a fundraiser poker tournament to help pay for this guy's medical bills, and from what i understand, his parents, who are like 65, are going to bear the burden of caring for him. what do you think about people like this, oot? i think its selfish for Dan to burden everyone with his existence. someone now has to change his diaper everytime he takes a dump, someone has to give him baths and put him back in his chair, someone has to feed him every meal. the same is true for a lot of old people who move back in with their sons/daughters and are a big inconveniece and cant ever really leave the house or do anything by themselves. i know the convention is to pity these people or extol them for being "brave" and "continuing to fight" and being a great inspiration, but to me i think that theyre really just selfish. if i ever get to the point where i need to be cleaned up after and fed, etc, im going to drive my wheel chair into the nearest pool after saying my goodbyes. i think life can really be not worth living and theres a time to end it. and i dont think its admirable to be a semi-vegetable and burden everyone around you and have them wiping your crap off your ass while you sit there and be "inspirational." anyone with me on this? |

Re: people who should be dead
Well, I'd WANT to be dead (you'd be surprised how many ER docs have agreements about partners about things like this with the stuff we see)
OTOH, who get to decide who deserves to die? Don't take it personally, but I'm not going to vote for you. I took care of a guy yesterday who hit a tree skiing - he's going to end up paraplegic - do we get to half kill him? How about mentally ill people, or people who are on dialysis? If we're going to be offing all the people who don't "contribute" to society, you're going to need a big hole... MM MD |

Re: people who should be dead
Living life as a quad would def suck, but living with the fact my dumb ass killed my whole family and dog would be far worse.

Re: people who should be dead
"anyone with me on this?"
Are you serious? If there is breath in my body and this happens to a son or daughter it's not even close. |

Re: people who should be dead
Please do us all a favor and pretend you are a quad, say goodbye and jump in the pool. Thanks.

Re: people who should be dead
I would definitely rather be dead than in his situation, but I can't speak for others.
