Default short low content post

i used to be ok at this game.

apparently i suck these days.

crash and burno busto busto. 2k roll down to $623 and playing a very strict movedown br system (IOW always playing the highest stakes I can afford and moving up and down accordingly). I always reinvest rakeback into my roll. This is the second time a cliff dive like this has foccurred. The first time my roll dropped from 2kish to around $600. I took a week off, thought about the game, read some, and then dove back in. rebuilt to a little more than 2kish and dipped the toe into the 5/T game. Then crasho busto sucko again. My style hasn't changed. I think tilt accounts for less of these results than leakiness does. I play recreationally and I don't know that I have the stomach to rebuild at limit holdem again.

Things I think I know:

I play an aggressive style pf.
I only ever play two tables at a time.
I tend to start tables if there are no 60% vpip ones available. (there usually aren't)
I don't watch tv or porn or anything else while playing.
I screw up the turn alot
I play the river better then my opposition for the most part.
I play an aggressive br plan (bankroll always = 250bb)
The games have gotten much much worse lately.
Rake at 1/2 is killer.
Tight aggressive loses in loose aggressive games.
Tight aggressive wins in loose passive games.
There aren't many loose passive games online at Stars or WPEX these days.
I play better HU than 6 handed.
I probably play better full ringed than 6 handed.
I don't like playing NL.
I could consider a pot limit or split pot type game.
The nearest live 10/20 game is still heavily raked and is about 90 minutes away.
My wife would kill me if I left every weekend to play poker.
I like poker. Alot.
I have no confidence right now.

alright. done. thx.

also, for ref. I dropped 125 bets in 575 hands today. My stats:

vpip: 30.9
pfr: 21.9
total af: 2.51
went to sd: 42
won at sd: 38

sample size 575 hands. suck it up right? yeah, but this has been going on for months now and it's blackening my soul.

If you're 2-tabling ~60% VPIP games and losing, I don't know what to say.

Also, rake will crush you playing heads up at low limit (if not at WPEX).

Also, this is subjective as hell: "Tight aggressive loses in loose aggressive games." It's true if you're too tight. But my definition of "loose" is "plays too many hands." So they are in -EV spots, and thus you can take their money.

i pretty much only play super short handed at wpex. I don't play 1 on 1 tables at stars and when i start tables they fill up quickly.

This is your problem. There are two strategies I see commonly employed to make money in online poker:

A. Play in tough games for rakeback and bonus.

B. Play in soft games and beat up on bad players.

Regardless of which of these you think is more profitable, I suggest you go with B. IMO it takes an almost super human ability to play in games in which you are, without incentives, a losing player and continue to want to play the game and improve. I've seen a lot of good players break themselves trying to make plan A work. I sure it's worked out for some people especially those who are either very good or very lucky, but in my experience plan B is a much better long term strategy.

thx for the advice all. ironically, I made the OP, then went to pick up a friend and head out to afore mentioned indian casino 1.5 hrs away. I won more live than I have sitting in my entire online roll even after the crushing rake, repeated tips, food and folding the best hand in biggish pots twice - which probably proves Leader's point as much as anything.

I think I'm still going to take a break from online limit holdem for a while until I can get some perspective back. The stars 1/2 game was still orders of magnitude tougher than the live Indian casino 6/12 game. A player there also hipped me to a couple of live underground limit games that happen to occur in my own fair berg, so we'll see about those as well.

So this statement from me:
no online holdem for 20 days. afterwards I'll play some, work on other methods of game selection, and post hands again.

125 bets in 575 hands is sick. You are probably going to showdown too much. You are probably trying way too hard to be a cool LAGTAG.

starting to dip into 5/10 with only 10 buyins when u arent confident in ur game is not smart at all, i have over 100 buy ins and still play 3/6 and 5/10 limit cuz i crush them and also once i hit 10/20 and 15/30 it gets much harder to 8 table since the games are tougher

I would play lower limits and gain confidence, dabble in the next stake once u have 20 B's minimum
