Fantasy Hockey
So some friends of mine are hardcore hockey fans. Ive always kind of followed hockey, but not religiously. Anyway, they have a fantasy league and after talking crap during football leagues I somehow ended up playing in this league.
I was drinking heavily when I agreed to play, but Im assuming it went something like "Whatever, I kick your ass in every other game, Im sure I could walk into your league and kick your ass" I know nothing about Fantasy Hockey, and now need to learn quickly. From just looking around online, it looks like I need a good draft to compete and since they have had this league for years, Im assuming they are somewhat competent. Any one here play fantasy hockey and have tips?? Are there any good sites to research it? |

Re: Fantasy Hockey
whats the setup, head to head, rotiserie or total points?
buy the hockey news fantasy preview, they have projections that are reasonably good guesses. check if you get points for penalty minutes and change draft plans accordingly. Find out what the format is and you'll get more relevant help. Dont mean to hijack the thread but I have a fantasy hockey league on yahoo, just $20 to join, pm for details |

Re: Fantasy Hockey
I'm in a league too. I haven't followed hockey in a few years. This will be tough.

Re: Fantasy Hockey
So Goals are important, PIMs are deflated. D-men have a higher value as well, get d-men that play on the first power play unit of their team and take them earlier than you would normally.
But, we still need more info to help you out more. How many forwards/d/goalies do you start? |

[/ QUOTE ] QFT, guys like Souray/McCabe/Kaberle/Boyle are some of the top offensive defensemen and are worth consideration. Wingers tend to be the goalscorers on most teams, so they'll be more valuable than centres in your league, too. As far as goalies go, wins are the hottest commodity, so pick a team that is most likely to do very well in the overall scheme of things, all the while making sure you take a goalie off of said team whose job is largely uncontested (i.e. he'll be starting the majority of games for his team). I personally hate not having at least one top-tier goalie on any of my fantasy teams in head-to-head leagues. Too many goalie categories can be won/lost by one performance every week. |

Re: Fantasy Hockey
Know that Luongo/Brodeur/Kipprusoff are the big 3 goalies... after they are taken you should probably wait before nabbing someone from the 2nd tier.
Wow, you don't get a lot of bench space. I was going to say just grab 1-2 star d-men and then play the matchups/whoever plays more games in the week. Do you know what pick you have? Try to get an elite forward the first round and I'd really want Pronger in your league. |

Re: Fantasy Hockey
Had my draft last night. Wanted to thank everyone for the help. Think I did pretty well considering my lack of knowledge. Basically ended up making a lot of trades mostly with people looking to move up and get goalies (they went fast). Here is what my lineup looks like
Centers: M Savard P Marleau C Drury Forwards: A Brunette B Morrow M Satan P Elias J Iginla J Cheechoo Defense: P Mara M Rozsival C Phillips M Carle Goal: M Turco R Luongo J Theodore I ended up with a not great D. Since I can mix and match offensive players and start the best 6 regardless of position I think I might end up trading one of the centers for some D help. Any have ideas what a fair return for Savard or Drury would be?? |

Re: Fantasy Hockey
I was worried about your forwards when I started reading them. Lol for leaving the best guys at the bottom
