Defend with mid pair
Decided to break this apart from my other hand becuase it was a bit different situation. Again this is at Will Hill, so table is 6 tight nits whom only seem to play high pocket pairs and AK, one semi loose guy, one new guy (Villian) and myself, whom has been pretty much card dead the entire night.
Ok so Villain is new, but given the site and the tightness of almost every other player at this level, I have to assume he is a wanker TAG too. William Hill 1/2 Hold'em (9 handed) Preflop: Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 4 folds, Villian raises, 3 folds, Hero calls. Flop: (2.25 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, Villain bets,Hero raises, Villain calls. Turn: (4.25 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, Villain raises, Hero folds My main concern here is preflop. I have been told a few thousand hands at 6 max would help me out in situations like this. I hate my call and think a 3-bet would be better, but my MUBS is screaming at me to fold, so I think a unhappy medium was reached with the call. I think the turn is an easy fold, but dont know if the bet is a smart play, since I might be able to get to showdown for 1BB if villian checks through the turn fearing another check/raise. However like the earlier hand I posted a check here is again just asking villians to take bluffs at me. |

Re: Defend with mid pair
i think this is an easy muck ...
however, an ace is always good to bluff at your opponent with (and by your flop play I wouldn't put you on an ace ... this is a typical pp pair or TP move ... and the site is tight, and your opponent knows this too) |

Re: Defend with mid pair
I think you have to reraise PF. When he calls flop C/R, I'm not betting an ace on the turn.

Re: Defend with mid pair
Against a thinking player this is tough. This is also a good example of why being out of position licks bag.
If I was the villian in this hand and I'd been playing with you long enough to recognize you as a solid player, I would raise the turn here with pretty much anything. I'm not ready to put you on an Ace based on the flop action, so I pretty much know 90% of the time you absolutely hate that one came off on the turn. Against a typical player who plays tight but isn't anything special I think you played this okay. Against a really good player though, I think you need to be prepared to sometimes go 3-bets on this turn, or check and call down, or check and raise, etc.. It's also easier if you 3-bet before the flop, I think. (Because now you might actually love that Ace, for one reason.) |
