Future for Online Pros
How many of you who have been making part or all of your living playing Poker online have experienced a dropoff in your earnings over the last few months? My view of online games is that their profitablity has declined steadily over the last couple of years, and precipitously over the last couple of months. I'm thinking that the glory days for being a pro online are about over. If this is true there should be a lot of evidence showing up in the Earnings of those engaged in this profession. It may be time for a lot of people to start making other plans for earning a living.

Re: Future for Online Pros
Anyone who thinks very profitable online poker is going to last forever is completely naive. I agree with you that the money pool is drying up. Obviously the very top pros have nothing to worry about but the majority will find themselves struggling to turn out a decent living within a few years.

Yeah, I mean it's not like anyone made money playing professionally before the poker boom.

Re: Future for Online Pros
The games have been drying up ofer the last few years but they still are extremely beatable. My earn has actually gone up but I would say thats mostly due to the transiton from full to Short handed games. My game has also gotten much better over the last cople years. Sure i make really dumb mistakes once in a while but thats due to me 8 tabling the SH games and not the fact that I am a bad player. Sit me down at 1 or 2 tables instead of 8 where I am fully concentrating on all the players and each and every move I make and I will completely crush the games I am in
If the games ever get bad enough that i can't 8 table effectively I will lower the # tables and move up in limits. I remember about a year and a half ago you used to see pot averages of 10BB plus on about 8-12 of the tables at each limit on Party. Now you are lucky if you see 1 or 2 above 7 BB at each limit. What I have noticed is people are getting tighter pf but postflop play is just as bad as ever Time to find another job? Nope, not even close. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think you hit on the main reason for tougher games, and it has to do with multitablers. Tough players like you multiply themselves to 8 tables, while fish play 1 or 2. A tough player like you might have a tiny reduction in BB/100, but it's more than compensated by the extra tables. A year ago at this time, I could only play 4 tables. Now I can play 9. Website upgrades have made multitabling easier for everyone, but the tough players take advantage of it the most. |

Re: Future for Online Pros
two years ago, the big online game was 30/60 and most 'pros' were playing 10/20 and 15/30. i think once you adjust for the inflation in game sizes, they're just as weak as ever. there might be a slight tightening up now as the relatively new 100/200 games shake out and people have stopped bouncing up and down limits as frequently, but the sky has been falling for five years in online poker, i'm not worried yet.

Re: Future for Online Pros
I think most people see dropoffs in earnings from poker do to boredom and complacency. I don't buy the theory that games are getting to tough to beat. I think once you believe that kind of thinking, your through.
Change things up. Poker is a large canvass with many different approaches that can win you the money you need to live on. |

[/ QUOTE ] It's that "within a few years" I'm questioning. I'm wondering if what we're seeing is an acceleration of game deterioration. Fish are finding better gambles in the online Casino. The early WPT broadcast did not air last night. Over just a few weeks period, BonusWhores Cut Party's Rating from "some of the softest games online" to average and below average. I'm wondering if the "within a few years" thing that we've always known about has just entered the "within a few months" phase. PairTheBoard |

So the nits go busto. Big deal. Find another hobby/job; play live. If you can't handle the heat, get outta da kitchen. Poker is a competitive endeavor...live with it or go away. Somebody's gotta lose. This applies to you, me, and everyone in between.
