St. Louis Cardinals\' GM Walt Jocketty fired
Note that he did not resign to "spend more time with his family." He was not allowed to retire.
Here is the story. |

I don't know how good a job he did or is perceived to have done. But, a World Series championship, two NL pennants, and six division titles in thirteen years deserves a respectful sendoff.

[/ QUOTE ] Not to mention 7 straight winning seasons (before this one). Yeah, this is certainly disrespectful. As a Cards fan, I'm embarrassed. |

It's probably because he complained about being underpaid.

Re: St. Louis Cardinals\' GM Walt Jocketty fired
The story a few weeks ago that suggestion that Jocketty and LaRusa might come to Seattle (PLEASE GOD NO NOT LARUSA) suggested that basically they'd been trying to force Jocketty out for a while as the front office changes from a less scouting driven focus to a more financial one.

yeah, from reading the article it looks much more political than performance. Lots of egos on the top floor of any company.

More proof that ownership is batshit crazy.
They totally handcuffed him the last 3 offseasons and he still managed to perform well, all things considered. What a joke. He deserved better than this. |

I had heard a rumor in the past that the Jocketty/LaRussa combo was on their way to the Reds.

they got the wrong guy. he did a pretty damn good job for the amount of money ownership allowed him to spend.

Re: St. Louis Cardinals\' GM Walt Jocketty fired
Time for some dark days in St. Louis. LaRussa is certainly going to leave and Dave Duncan is probably out as well.
I understand that DeWitt hired some accountant named Jeff Lunhow a couple of years ago to eventually replace Jocketty and take a more financial approach to signing/developing players. We all know that doesn't work so look for the Cardinals to be crappy for awhile. Eventually the fans will stop coming... People forget the 70s in St. Louis. You could buy tickets behind third base on game day. |
