What was with the "top 4" comment to Sanjaya?

Was that necessary? Are they trying to get him voted off or something? I didn't hear them make referrence to anyone else being near the top of the voting.

Any ideas what that was about?

I think it was just supposed to surprise the audience, given that everyone knows he sucked.

And, given that it was "Top 4" and not "Top 3", I'm assuming Sanjaya came in exactly 4th among the guys.

Absolutely I thought it was great for Sanjaya and people who own him. He got recognition, that's all good.

Yes, this is just some minor manipulation by the producers. When they have a reason (and only they know what that reason is), they let some results be known. I would not know where to begin the speculation as to why, but their job is to keep this monster of a show rolling along.
They did it a couple times lat year, most notably on the night Elliott got booted.

does anyone think they want his fan base to get complacent and be eliminated? i think they want him to have momemtum, although they won't be able to fight him sucking each week (on second thought, ace stuck around)
