I'm really considering moving to Canada, to play online poker. What are your guys' thoughts on this, and has anyone done it? I'm wondering if becoming a citizen is difficult etc, and what you guys think of this idea in general.

Definitely a good move. You seem like you would be right at home in Canada.

You might be a troll, but whatever.
Even if HR 4411 becomes law, there will very likely still be a lot of online poker played in the US. To say that enforcement will be difficult is an understatement. Even if some hurdles are erected, overcoming them will almost certainly be an orders of magnitude easier than what you are talking about. I mean, maybe "internet poker player" fills a gap in the Canadian labor force, but I doubt it. |

I think it usually takes five years to become a citizen. If online gambling is truly banned in a few years, why bother? All the fish will disappear and online poker will no longer be the cash cow it is today.

I think 90% of the player base is from the US. Furthermore, I think most of the fish are from the US, not Europe or elsewhere.

[/ QUOTE ] Of course you have to pay income tax to one country or the other, but Americans with a home abroad get an $80,000 yearly exemption for foreign earnings. I would presume that you would pay Canadian income tax on those earnings, though. As always, consult your tax lawyer or accountant. |
