Default Eagles vs Redskins Monday Night Football Week 2

Big Skins fan here, and I figured that there are enough fans of both teams on this board for its own thread...

Sportsbook has Philly at -7. I think thats a tad high, but I clearly think Philly deserves to be favored.

I think that this game will be decided by one or two big plays, and I think that both offenses are capable of making them.

For the Redskins to win they have to:

Have a big game on the ground from Portis/Betts(probably more Portis)

Win battle of turnovers and big plays

Not get completely torched by McNabb/Westbrook(limit them to 250 and 100 yards)

I also think its possible that Philly totally outplays the Skins and Philly still loses by a bunch of "flukes." These past few seasons, Philly constantly seems to be on the bad end of the "we outplayed them and still lost" scenario. After a while, it becomes an expectation and not a fluke imo. Theres a reason why teams like Chicago, Pittsburgh, New England, etc. constantly win "lucky" games, while teams like Philly and Indy(before last year of course) constantly seem to lose them. And while the Redskins certainly aren't in that top tier, I'd say that they're above average in this regard.

Do Philly fans view this as a must win game? Dallas is at Miami and the Giants are at home vs GB...both should be favored. So if they lose then it could be:

Wash 2-0
Dal 2-0
NYG 1-1
Phil 0-2

Also any Vegas 2+2ers want to meet up somewhere for the game? Me and Robert(miami32) will definitely be out at some bar watching it.

Hello Skins fan. Eagles fan here.

Eagles -7 seems very high to me. The offense is too big of a questionmark right now to be favored by a TD. I would have figured somewhere around -4.

The Eagles do have an infuriating knack to lose games that they have no business of losing. A certain percentage of this is attributable to luck (i.e. within the last year, teams hit 90%+ of their FGs against Philly). But a lot is sloppiness and poor execution. The Eagles used to be a very disciplined and organized team, but within the last year they have committed a LOT of stupid penalties (especially 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalties) and their special teams have gone to poop.

Big for this game is that Sheppard is out. He is the best Eagle defender, IMO. The Eagles D looked awesome in week one - but GB isn't the most potent offense. That said, they did dominate the LOS and allowed zero big plays.

I agree that turnovers will be key.

Question for Skins fans - how is your defense different than last year - specifically - what personnel changes will allow you to get pressure on the QB and force turnovers?

D

PS Us neurotic Eagle fans view every game as must win.

Could we wait until this week's Monday night games end before we start talking about next week's games?

I actually didn't know that before you mentioned it, and I agree that is very big. I read that Will James will replace him and Joselio Hansen will play when they go nickel...is that correct? If so, how good are they? If the Skins go 3 wide, do you think the Eagles will have major problems covering Moss, Randle El, Lloyd, and Cooley all at once?

Also - Key areas of improvement for Eagles:

1. Special teams, duh.
2. O-line needs to return to all-pro form so that McNabb can have time and not be forced to run around on the new knee.
3. Don't abandon the run in the second half / Give Westy more touches.

As a positive, I don't think the Eagles special teams can be any worse than they were last week. I always feel bad at the beginning of season as I follow the Phillies, but ditch you guys for the 49ers around this time of year. Still have a soft spot for the Eagles

Eagles fan here. I, unlike most Eagles fans, am not worried about the season. That was as flukey a loss as you will ever see, and the offense wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be against a VERY underrated packers D.

I think the birds will handle the foreskins, 27-17, this Monday night. If they lose at home to a division rival and drop to 0-2, andy reid will need to walk off the field with serious police protection because the fans will be aiming for his head
