Famous people at my work (part II)
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is a nice guy. Sure there was the whole sexual harrassment thing, but that was so long ago.
But he really is a nice guy. He takes time to learn your name, apologizes when he forgets it and has an awesome laugh. Plus a crushingly powerful handshake. Perhaps the second coolest thing about Clarence is that for the week he recorded his audio book in our studio, he ate lunch in with everyone on staff. Of course half the people didn't know who he was, just that there was this important looking older black man eating a sandwhich and two apples in the staff lunchroom. Third coolest thing is him having an impromptu lecture on social responsibility to anyone that was in the lunchroom at the same time he was. But the coolest thing about having Clarence Thomas hanging around the office is an incident that happened on the second to last day he was here.... One of the guys at work is mildly autistic. We'll call him The Little Guy He works half the day with us and the other half at another job. He also loves pro-wrestling and wears a fake championship belt that a co-worker got him for the half-day that he's around. So Clarence Thomas is waiting for the elevator when the Little Guy walks by wearing the wrestling belt. Clarence Thomas looks at the belt and says "The champ..." The Little Guy raises his arms in triumph and says "The Champ!" and walks away. Later we asked the Little Guy if he knew who that was. Little Guy "No, who was that?" Us: "That was a Supreme Court Justice" Little Guy: "So I guess I really am the champ." |

Hah, whoops. Who would have thought Parts I and II would be posted 40 minutes apart.

Re: Famous people at my work (part II)
hi BlueMonster,
i was wondering if you'd be willing to talk a bit about what the post-production scene is like in DC, and who i should start talking to, etc etc. i have a very solid resume for a 24 year old audio engineer....mostly music, but a decent amount of post too. i'm currently freelancing in NYC and more and more im thinking that i could really use a relocation. NY is starting to wear on me and the cost of living is just [censored] horrendous. thanks, jon |

Also, that last part with the Champ is really awesome, and makes someone in Clarence Thomas's position seem personal, and really nice/funny. |
