Call me a scary bastard but I'm check calling this river, a set is not a big part of his range they would have raised preflop presumably, just like two pair. AJ, KJ, QJ should also be long gone, I mean you bet into a lot of people on the flop, so you obviously earned some respect. The only logical line uptil the turn is a flush or something like 68. If you check to him I can't possibly see him pushing or bluffbetting really big with two pair or a set which he played a little slowly. I would call about 2/3 of the pot, if he pushes I'm gone.

Wait, what?
Why would you not bet that river? Villain looks passive as all get out and I want some value. And you can't fold to the shove. I gotta imagine the 4th nut flush is good here more than 30 into 140 with straights out and no pair on the board. |

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe passive is his game of playing flushes, I mean we know nothing about this guy, how does he play his sets for example? And the only straight I can see that got there is 86, but why would he turn 86 in a potential bluff? I think there is a decent chance after the turn call he has a flush in his hand, unless we know for sure that he plays his sets so passively. Can't really see him go this far with AJ unless he is a calling station (as said no reads), and two pair really would have raised that flop (would be to loose preflopcalls also by the way so very unlikely they are out there). If he has a flush (although smaller) I think he wil be betting it in the end if you check to him so you don't loose value to lower flushes. But lower flushes are also very unlikely to be out there; you play 96s or 63s (only 109 in fact), you are beaten by far more flush combinations. Concluding: I feel his range on the turn is a straight (which I would raise at this point), a passively played set, a lower flush or higher flush. You don't lose very much value against lower flushes because they will bet out at you, you lose some value against a set, but you prevent yourself getting stacked for another 70. If he shoves you can fold, pretty much nothing then air would do that (maybe 109s). |

ANTHING other than bet/call is just baaaaaaaaaad. |

Yep, you played the hand very well. If you lost to a bigger flush, such is poker.
