they play it with all $1 chips?
I'll be in SoCal in March and am trying to work a poker night into our family vacation. Is Oceans 11 close to Newport Beach? If not what is? and what to play where? |

[/ QUOTE ] Oceans is kind of a haul from Newport. Unfortunately, so's everything else. Oceans is prolly an hour South of Newport. Hustler, Hollywood Park and the Bike are about 40 minutes North, Commerce a bit farther than that, maybe. |

Ocean's 11 is going to be about a 45 minute legal drive from newport beach. If you're a fearless speeder you can make it in 30 (and have fun doing it).
Having said that, I don't know what's near newport because I'm actually closer to 11s. |

Hawain Gardens is probably your closest bet. Maybe 30 minutes if you don't hit much traffic.

[/ QUOTE ] I'm guessing $2 chip... I think fuji was sating that when it is a kill pot (ie 16/32) it is a 8-16 chip structure 8-16 X $2 = $16/$32. BTW, this is true for all Cali cardrooms... err make that all live B&M places! Live poker is rediculously profitable.. gonna hit Bay101 later today for some 8/16 myself. |

I was at Oceans playing some 2-3 NL (I think) and while I was waiting for a seat I was watching the 20/40 limit game. I saw a guy coldcall a preflop 3-bet with A5o and chase ace-high to the river (I was standing behind him and he didn't cover his cards very much). I don't recall seeing an 8/16-kill running when I was there, though.
Live limit games are soft... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... but live no limit games are even softer. |

Professor Schoonmaker would tell me that I am suffering from the fallacy of thinking that everyone thinks like I do. I can't imagine playing at those stakes until I was fully confident in my abilities to hold my own. Why is live so crappy? Maybe I'll head over there this weekend. I don't think I'll do 20/40... but yeah. Maybe 2/4 can be worth the venture.

Zel, don't do 2/4; just step right up to the 3/6. The 3/6 is equally soft and the structure is a little more conducive to profit. At 2/4 they rake $2+$1BBJ on the flop and you pay $3 in blinds per round. At 3/6 They rake $3+$1BBJ and you pay $4 in blinds per round. The 1/3 size small blind is more favorable to the tight player and the pots are significantly bigger, lessening the impact of the rake.
Trust me, anyone that can hold their own in a .25/.50 game online is overqualified for the 3/6 at Oceans. My bankroll and heartrate won't let me play the bigger games yet. |

Horrible stack depleting losses at $.25/.50 are $10.
Horrible stack depleting losses at $3/6 are $120. On the other hand, "You can't lose what you don't put in the middle. But then you can't win much either." Should I be inspired by rounders quotes? Ha. Edit: Furthermore, how many of those tables do they have? I've only been there but a few times. Is there much selection with the 3/6? |
