Weird social situation
I'm 24. I live in a really nice 1 bedroom apartment in downtown chicago. Most of my friends of a similar age are poor. I kinda feel a bit weird having them round, but its not too bad. I have a few older friends, established, respectable careers. Ive never had any of them over. Some know I play poker, some dont. None of them have any idea that Ive actually made lots of money. Ive been to their places, and mine is way way nicer.
I feel awkward at the idea of having them round, showing this relative opulence, which I kinda dont deserve, when they are older than me and probably deserve it more. Is this strange? What should I do about it? |

Re: Weird social situation
You really should get over feeling like someone "deserves" something more than you just because they're older and/or have chose a more traditional career. Invite them over, see what happens.

Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

Re: Weird social situation
money sucks, doesn't it?
i mean - this is an honest question - why did you buy/rent the particular apartment you did? because you wanted nice things, right? |

Re: Weird social situation
dean - i didn't mean it wasn't nice, just that it's not noticeably nicer than lots of places friends of mine - some not with tons of money - had when i was your age. like - it's definitely not opulent - it's a good apartment for a guy your age. i was serious when i asked for a description of these other dudes' living conditions because for your place to be guilt inspiring their situations may be dire and i always enjoy hearing about the misfortunes of others.
