Calling flop to hit bottom set
2/4 B&M (TStone)
1/2 hour in, high turnover on a Sat night so no reads at all. I'm pretty new to B&M play but the table seemed unbelievably loose and weak. Seriously half them didn't even know rules. I go to Vegas soon, is this what I can expect? Preflop: (10 players): Hero is SB with 2 2 7 limpers, Hero in SB completes, BB checks Flop: (9 players, 8 SB): K T 5 rainbow (9 players) Hero checks, BB bets, 7 call, Hero calls Normally I'm c/f with underpair and a large field, but what I'm thinking of is 17 to 1 with excellent relative position. So I think I can make that extra 2 bets up the times I hit. This is the real question of the post. How many limpers to I need to make this call correct? The rest of the hand is straight forward I hope. If not please correct me! Turn: Turn (9 players, 8 BB): K T 5 rainbow 2 (board in now 2-suited) (9 players) Hero checks, BB bets, 3 call, Hero raises, 4 call River: (9 players, 18 BB): K T 5 rainbow 2 9 (no flush) (5 players) Hero bets |

Re: Calling flop to hit bottom set
Flop peel is fine. Yes 2/4 b&m players are bad. That's why they play 2/4. If you ran into QJ that sucks, but that doesn't mean the flop peel getting 17:1 with huge implied odds and good relative position is wrong.

Re: Calling flop to hit bottom set
Your implied odds are good in situations like this because when you don't hit on the turn you can easily check/fold and when you do hit a 2 you really get paid. If you are getting 17:1 for your 22:1 draw, but you have 9 callers (including yourself) you are likely to make up for this difference on the turn and river. To tell you the truth this looks like text book implied odds.

Re: Calling flop to hit bottom set
Well a 2 gives you the winning hand almost 100% of the time and you make up for the extra odds with implied odds always. I agree with Hair that this isn't even a a debate, but a standard call. Keep in mind I suck.

Re: Calling flop to hit bottom set
Raise the flop and it isn't even clo..... Just kidding. Hand looks fine. Perfect spot to peel one here.
Oh, does everyone like the Turn C/R here? Seems like a decent spot for it in the SB, your hand is fairly well disguised here. I assume you picked up severl callers on the river with your lead out? |

Re: Calling flop to hit bottom set
The turn c/r is a good value play here. The 2 isn't a scare card and the flop bettor is VERY likely to bet again. Live players don't shut down until the River most of the time. Your relative position couldn't be better for gaining maximum value for your hand.
