Re: A very conservative play spells disaster
I know...and I wasn't trapping or anything sneaky like that. I honestly thought that his small 800 bet on the flop either meant two things...extreme strength or a post oak bluff, like a draw or something. Then when i made my 2 pair on the turn I checked because the big blind might check raise if he had a hand like AQ or J10. I felt my hand was strong but not great to lead out and if I peel one off and a blank hits then i'll feel more comfortable.
But my big blunder was CALLING 4800 WHEN THE CLUB HIT!! if the BB was on a club draw he just got there for free, and I said i would call if a blank hit, but instead I call off half my stack with 3 clubs on board and a weak 2 pair. I know what I did wrong...just curious how other people would of proceeded with the hand. |

Re: A very conservative play spells disaster
What's the buyin?
Fold preflop. As played flop is fine since he bet like 1/6 of the pot. Mid PPs seem to make bets like that a lot, and you have 5 outs to beat Ax. If he fires a bigger bet on the turn, and you don't improve, you'll need to fold. I think just folding the flop is also ok since there's 2 more betting rounds and you don't want to end up losing 3 bets to A2 or whatever he has. Definitely bet the turn. As you saw, giving the free card is a disaster here. River is a tough decision, but if you had bet the turn you might not have had to make it. |

Re: A very conservative play spells disaster
Easy fold preflop.
Fold he flop. I know it hard to fold the flop given the huge pot odds, but there are 2 other players besides u, and if one of them has an A (which is likely) u only have 5 outs. On the turn u have to bet. Your hand is very vulnerable and there is a flush draw on the board. Bet 5k to protect your hand. |
