done with playing the retards at the casino
i am a pretty serious 2/4 3/6 player and decided to quit and go back playing online again against people who know what they are doing. I just lost my bankroll to a combination of getting cold deck and idiots calling to the river with bottom pair. I don't know about everyone else where they play but in atlantic city it is joke. No one knows anything and i even play the way sklansky suggests to play against loose passive players and nothing has worked. At one point i made 1700 in two weeks but since then i have lost all and a lot more so i give up....wish me luck online even tho i won't need it as much.

i don't think you're gonna get a lot of sympathy here even though i know how you feel sometimes. but all of us (and in theory too) would love to play in games filled with morons, instead of tougher online games, or any game where the players are all good. it sucks sometimes when you get rivered over and over but those guys are making tons of wrong decisions and if you stick with it you're going to win in the long run. maybe try 4/8 or something so the rake doesn't get you so badly. 2/4 is very bad for rake live.

Re: done with playing the retards at the casino
1) IMO, this is BBV, not small stakes.
2) I gotta admit that I love it when online guys who seem to think they are all that find out that life in the casino isn't quite so "linear." Let's admit that online poker and casino poker at these limits are very different and are played very differently. Players that crossover from one to the other haven't fared very well initially. It takes patience to cross over to the dark side of casino play. Just last night at Commerce I was on the wrong end of these 3 hands. 1) Got raised PF by 23s that hit the flush. 2) Got raised PF by 35s that hit the flush. 3) I raised with KK. Floped 22x and SB bet into me all the way. He had AQ and rivered an A for the win. Also had a 4/8 table just go nuts where every hand for an hour was capped PF and 2 guys went 5 bets on the river full house versus full house. I was card dead and was down 15 BB. Others won or lost hundreds. Saw one guy drop 3 bills in 20 min. of that 4/8 explosion. I've learned some live play things that kept me out of the way of this high variance meat grinder. I think that a more objective discussion of the differences between live and online play will make us better players overall. IMO, live play is just different than online, not worse. We need to learn to exploit those differences rather than expect live players to play your online way and meet your online expectations. That way of thinking is both condesending to live players and is often, expensively wrong. Think about it. Or just go back to online play and stay out of the casino. Last night was a blast to be around. |

Re: done with playing the retards at the casino
i think we can say that a 2/4 or 4/8 game live is, in fact, 'worse' than an online game of same stakes or even a .5/1 game online. almost without exception live low-limit players play bad hands, chase, etc etc blah blah. is it higher variance with different adjustments to be made as compared to online? of course. what i would like is to be able to 4-table live

Re: done with playing the retards at the casino
Sucks you went busto. Meeting the smiling donkeys face to face while they stack your chips can be frustrating, for sure.
I only play the occasional S&G online (with decent results), but today I decided to try some microlimit while grinding out some tokens. As that's matchsticks to me, I like to LAG it up, but I realized, damn, wow, moves at 6/12 live certainly don't have the same value as .25/.50 online. I LOVE that added value of people playing ridiculous hands. Plus, as I'm on a tiny old Mac laptop, I don't have all the fancy tracking software that everybody uses. Live, I play the person, I pick up a lot in mannerisms, and it's easier for me to follow patterns and recognize people. I've not logged nearly enough hours to know if I'm "decent" or "lucky" right now, but I can sit down at most 3/6 or 6/12 games and feel immediately comfortable, as I can quickly figure out who to avoid and who to stalk and kill. I also find it easier to stay focused live. I'm sure this will change a bit as I become more familiar with the math and slight edges on the road to grinding it out, but right now my game is such where I relish the big swings and crazy odds that live play affords, at rates much more meaingful to me than where I'm comfortable online. But different strokes for different folks. I hope you're able to get back on the saddle and shake it off. If you went busto, perhaps you were at too high a game for your bankroll anyway? |

I was card dead and was down 15 BB. [/ QUOTE ] LOL. Like jeepers you were down a little over a rack? ROTFLMAO. If you said you were down 150BB I'd have some sympathy. A 15BB swing is insignificant. If you want lower variance, play NL. AB |
