I REALLY don\'t like folding...especially sets.
I usually hate these types of posts, but I figured I'd post it anyways.
Villain is 17/9/2.25 over like 100 hands. No other reads on his post-flop play. I'm playing solidish 20/16 poker. Shove is completely standard. Set over set sux but you can't get away here.

There isn't anything on the board that beats you but a set so there's no way you can fold here. He could easily have a random two-pair or a flush draw or air in order of likelihood.

Re: I REALLY don\'t like folding...especially sets.
Set over set sucks but this is the type of action you want with a set. You're not behind to a flush or straight so you have to get it on without a very specific read on your opponent. I don't think it's right to just conform a big hand that you beat to the board (ie, T8, that doens't add up with his preflop raise). I think the hands that you beat are much more likely QQ-AA, especially AA or KK as your opponent is right to start pressing the issue here with his overpairs. I wouldn't be shocked to see him turn over TT or 88 but you may very well be crushing suited AT, AA, KK, QQ, and a float with a suited AK as well as some other randomness. Take your medicine.

[/ QUOTE ] I can see what you mean. I guess this is either him playing a little funny or set over set. I think that you can exclude the ATs part of the range as there was no flush draw on the flop, so his call would be terrible with one man behind. One other thing is that I disagree with is that you want action against your set. While that may be true generally I don't think it is on this board, against this opponent - because the action you're getting signals that you're beat. You want action with a set in this scnario against an AK2r board and other boards which justify action. Any thought? |

[/ QUOTE ] Random two pair? is he playing T8? The only hand that makes sense and you can beat here is JJ. Which is still a very unlikely hand. |

Re: I REALLY don\'t like folding...especially sets.
T8 is so unlikely because of the preflop action. He's quite tight and tight players don't tend to call with this T8 in the small blind unless it's just completing the blind.
