Default Fuper Spot Where Hand Reading Helps

Early round of the FTP Fuper. Blinds at 15/30 and stacks mostly still around 3K.

UTG opens to 120, UTG+1 calls, I call in the SB with 99, BB calls.

Flop comes 8s6s3h.

I check to PFR who bets only 120. Only I call.

Turn brings 3c. Sometimes I lead here, sometimes I check. This time I was pretty sure I was ahead and would have a tough time getting any value from a worse hand, so I checked. He checked back.

River 8c. I bet 500 into a pot of about 735. PFR makes it 2150 leaving himself only 700 chips.

I have some pretty strong thoughts on the river play, but I don't want to sway discussion.

edited to put me in SB

That's exactly what I was trying to do, and IMO, my hand looks more like a busted FD/SD when I lead at least 2/3 pot.

Well Theres no way hes bluffing so fold. If he thought u were full of it, then he'd call with His Ace high or whatever, he 4x it UTG? his range is tight, i dont think he ever has JTs or whatever.

If I had to guess a single hand, I'd say he has quad 8s. He bet 1/4 pot on the flop on a draw heavy board into 3 people. He had a chance to bet to try to win the pot on the turn when the board paired but checked behind. He just raised you on the river on a double paired board. From his perspective, your call on the flop could mean you caught a pair on the flop, which means in all likelihood you now have a boat, since 2 of the 3 flop board cards are now paired, yet he raised you. Type in "Quads are good, sir" and fold your overpair face up.

If he has 66, 88, he'd raise to 1500. He may think all-in looks like bluff but still doesn't want you to call, therefore made 2150. Given your reasoning, you should call the river.
