Live 2/4 game at the Taj In AC. 10 handed.
Button, SB, and MP1 are all lags. CO is a tag. The rest of the table has been weak and loose. CO and SB both have *huge* mountains of chips, CO because hes the best player at the table; SB because he does things like make straight flushes after calling UTG with K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. I don't have much of a read on button other than he likes to see lots of flops. Hero is BB with J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Preflop: 3 folds, MP1 calls, 2 folds, CO calls, Button calls, SB calls, Hero checks. Flop: (5 players, 5 SB) 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] SB checks, Hero bets, MP1 calls, CO calls, Button raises, SB calls, Hero calls, MP1 calls, CO calls. Turn: (5 players, 7.5 BB) J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] SB checks, Hero...? Most of the weak players weren't involved in this hand, so I wasn't sure what to do here. |

either bet, or check raise if you're sure someone will bet (preferably the button, if MP1 bets you can't c/r) If nobody bets not all is lost as you also get a free card for the straight. But it would suck to give KQ/Ax a free card. The button might have been raising for a free card, but he'll prolly bet if it's checked to him. That'd be perfect. Be careful tho, since nobody raised preflop there's a higher than normal chance someone has a J as well, and it will be with a higher kicker than your 7.

how do people feel about 3-betting the flop?

I wouldn't 3-bet the flop because you could fold out the two callers in between.
When the J hits on the turn I go for a check/raise on the LAGgy button. |

if they call a lot 3 betting the flop is an option. would be a value bet. but you have to be careful since its only a 1 card straight. Don't count it as 8 outs. But even for 6 it would be value. so nice option. (and getting a JQ to fold would be awesome)

how do people feel about 3-betting the flop? [/ QUOTE ] I love it. The pot is big and you want to maximize your chances of winning it. You want overcards to fold and there is a great chance to get a better J to fold. Plus if everyone calls, its okay. I think three-betting the flop is good. |

You want overcards to fold [/ QUOTE ] Why? Hero has a 1 card straight draw and a jack overcard. [ QUOTE ] Plus if everyone calls, its okay. [/ QUOTE ] I doubt MP1 and CO will both call 2 bets cold if hero 3bets the flop. This would take money out of the pot that you wouldn't mind seeing. Remember, hero only has a draw which could be shared by another player or two as well. Haupt_234 |

haupt, there is a good chance that no one is paired up in this hand yet. since the pot is of a good size i think it is a good idea to knock overcards out in case we turn a pair w/ either of the cards. if that happens, it becomes important that a Q, K, or A aren't just hanging out there.

To those who advocate 3 betting the flop, does it not matter that we are now possibly only drawing to half the pot (based on the fact that theres were two calls, and a raise, and a cold-call back to me)? It seems like theres at least another 7 out there if not a made straight.
Based on the action and the coordinated board (I thought the analysis was pretty much over or I wouldn't have posted results, oops) I thought my overcards were no good at all, and that I needed to make my straight to win. |
