Default BRAG - MMA is taking over!

Brag - Cover of ESPNMAG and Sports Illustrated this month. SHIP IT. Also, I think ESPN will be showing the UFC71 highlights on SportsCenter. HBO is close to securing a deal with the UFC. WE ARE TAKING OVER THE WORLD BUAHAHAHAHAHA.

This thread is for everything great about MMA.

So in other words,

Also ask me anything about MMA. I'm not clairvoyant, but I know a lot.

Isn't it funny that two grown males inflicting pain on each other is a sport?

Wow.

Just watched the weigh-ins and Shogun got some mad props from the crowd including a "Shogun! Shogun! Shogun!" chant while I heard some boos for Forrest.

I watched a UFC "fight" once, looked like they were humping. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I watched a boxing "match" once.... they hit each other with pillows for 12 rounds and then clinched (hugged) when they got tired. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Any combat sport has boring fights, imo MMA on the whole is less boring than boxing as the striking of boxing is found in MMA, plus kicks, takedowns, submissions, etc. It is overall just a matter of opinion though; unless you're floyd mayweather then you can just be a dick about it all and fight de la hoya for 12 rounds and almost no damage while touting your own ability etc etc....

I like MMA because I think more often than not the guys get out there and [censored] each other up thus giving the fans a good fight. Guys get boo'd for fighting for decisions or taking a slow jabbing pace. The boxing world today (today; so please dont mention Ali or Tyson) lacks that attitude. I also think it's harder to be a well rounded MMA fighter as you have to attempt to master so many facets of the fight game or risk getting worked over by opponents smart enough to exploit your weak points. And though I am biased (I do submission grappling)... I love seeing absolutely sick submissions in a fight.

The moves by HBO and ESPN are steps toward the validation of MMA in the US. This isn't just about the UFC it's about taking this sport from the 90's where it was attacked as a bloodsport and ultra-violent to a respected and understood place among other combat sports.
