Default what would it take to trade Tom Brady?

I was thinking about Chicago's QB problems the other day and I came up with an interesting scenario: What would the Bears have to give up in draft picks in order to get Tom Brady mid season?

I am a diehard Pats fan and remember when the Colts and Pats were fighting for the bottom spots in the league. This is obviously the best of times for the Pats and in no way do I think they would trade Brady. But you CAN put a price on anything.

So, what would be fair both ways? The next 4 first round draft picks from the Bears. Five? I know it sounds ridiculous at first to speak of so many first rounders but put yourself in Chicago's shoes; They get Brady and a lot of their problems are fixed and are a legit threat to win the Superbowl this year and for years to come with the current state of the NFC. Their window may close soon and they can't afford to wait for a possible stud quarterback through the draft to turn things around.

The Pats?: They would have to be nuts to even entertain the thought. But would four or five first rounders do the trick? The Pats have had a hugely successful run with their first round picks going back 6 or 7 years. What could they achieve with those picks?

Also, is there any other teams out there who would offer more? Maybe for the instant credibility/ticket sales that a draw like Brady would spur in said teams city? Plus their picks would most likely be more valuable. (since they need the high profile guy, they are probably not a good team and would thus finish lower each year than the Bears)

Just looking for some thoughts on this. I thought it would make an interesting discussion.

Also, on a side note. Not to have an elitist or biased attitude towards the Pats but maybe this discussion would be even more realistic pertaining to the Colts. The Colts are probably in much more need of retooling their roster inspite of their recent superbowl victory.
How many draft picks for Manning?

Pats have a chance to win 2 or 3 more SB's with Brady. lose him, and the odds go down greatly unless they have some very good replacement (which they don't).

I would think (realistic chance at 2 SB's) is > (5 1st rounders).

at some point the EV makes sense for a trade, but the PR hit would be so huge for the Pats that they would never do it.

Peyton Manning.

There is no other trade that could possibly be +EV for the Pats.

The question is, how many heartbeats would it take for them to accept this trade? I'd say between .6 and .8.

I don't think they would. Fan backlash would be enormous.

Besides, Brady is zomg so clutch and Peyton is such a chokerz. And 3 rings > 1 ring.

(Although to answer your question, it should be atleast 3-4 seconds, enough time for them to pick up the phone after dropping it in shock)

Of course they wouldn't pull the trigger on Brady straight up for Manning, but it'd be pretty funny. Goodell would go nuts. It'd be like the WWF. Indy and NE fans would both completely flip out and hate their team's front office. Brady and Manning would both have the "wait.. what?" look on their face for the next 6 weeks. It'd be high comedy.

Agree, Peyton Manning is clearly this generations Dan Marino and will never win a Super Bowl.

Bill Simmons has a nice tiebreaker idea in his annual "most untradable NBA players" column, that I will rip off here.

Neither the Pats nor the Colts would agree to a straight-up Manning/Brady trade. The difference is that Bill Polian would laugh and give an immediate "no," while Belicheck/Pioli/Kraft would at least stop and say to themselves: "Wow, Manning's available?"

As for the OP, there is nothing the Bears could offer that would get them Brady. In order for a Brady trade to be even remotely possible this year or next, the Patriots would have to get an excellent young QB in return (Palmer, Roethlisberger, Rivers -- that's about it), with some good draft picks or players thrown in.
