HU 50-100 Private Game...facing River Push
I got to the game late and only 1 remaining player. Decided to play HU. 15k effective stacks. Hand was played in the 1st 20 min of play.
Villain and I have an extended history dating back years. Villain would be best described as an extreme LAG, but very smart and experienced player knowing what he's doing. He applies constant pressure at all opportunities. 50/100 I'm in BB with Q9 off. He raises to $300.....I 3-bet to $1300....he calls . Flop is 2d, 3s, Qd... I check. Villain bets $1400. I call. Turn is 5d. I check. Villain checks behind. River is 10c. I bet $2000. Villain pushes. Any feedback on this hand would be greatly appreciated. I have been thinking about this and all day. |

Re: HU 50-100 Private Game...facing River Push
i think your definitely behind and this is a fold, i've seen this line with a made flush on the turn often(especially with Adxd or Kdxd). you can't beat much, if he had a naked flush draw he woulda bet the turn. i bet the flop out and probably three bet all in. if i would check, it would only be to check raise.

Re: HU 50-100 Private Game...facing River Push
hand was played fine until the river although i don't see fault in betting turn 2/3 pot
i'd prefer a better plan before you bet the river, if you felt you were likely ahead and wanted to get value i prefer c/c, allowing him to fire away with his apparently wide range. you also lose significantly less when behind, as your hand even HU is marginal if you were trying to induce a bluff then it looks like you did it so go with your read but personally i don't like a call in the situation you described. it's not close either imo. i suspect you should have bet the turn for the same reasons you decided to bet the river |

i really dont like the river bet. too small, especially against a tricky lag player. check call is the right play here.

Re: HU 50-100 Private Game...facing River Push
Pre-flop sucks and the river bet has the big problem that you are giving away you have a semi-strong hand that is vulnerable and will fold to a raise (because you check/called on flop and checked on turn).
If you have done a lot of check/call (flop), check/raise (turn) lines, then he can expect you to have a decent hand here, and I would fold. If you havent its a nasty decision, and theres certainly a rationale for calling. |

preflop is fine, just not against this type of player

Re: HU 50-100 Private Game...facing River Push
Don't reraise preflop. Don't bet the river.
As played sounds like it's a call vs this villain. |
