Poker in Korea
Has anyone played poker at the Walker Hill Casino in Seoul?
They opened a few months ago but the website www.seoulcasino.co.kr only mentions blackjack, tai sai, roulette, slots, baccarat, and big wheel. Koreans aren't allowed to gamble (except at non-foreigner resort casinos in Kangwon...) so I imagine the games are full if US soldiers and visiting businessmen if they bring their passports. Does anyone know of any poker in Korea? |

Re: Poker in Korea
I have played there. They had what amounts to a $5/10 No Limit Holdem game the day I played.
By law, no Koreans are allowed to play in the game. 80% of the players were Korean North Americans. The play was of much higher quality than you would find in a typical $5/$10 no limit game in the U.S. The worst aspect of the game, by far, was the rake. They were dropping over $15 (15,000 Korean won) PER HAND. This is in a $5/$10 game ! At my request, when the game got short handed, one of the players asked his bud the manager to drop the rate. He dropped the rake to $10 per hand. This is the highest rake I have ever witnessed, $10 per hand in a short handed 5/10 NL game. The casino is very pretty, as are the surroundings and the cocktail waitresses But poker is gimped until rakes come down (surely an unlikely event). |

Re: Poker in Korea
i've played there and from what I've heard it's the only casino in korea to spread hold'em
when I went they had 1/2nl and 2/5nl, didn't really notice the rake but I suspect it was high lol. the game was pretty tight but still I found enough soft spots to make it profitable. when I went it was like 70% north american koreans from US/Canada, and 30% "foreigners" gl |

Until other casinos start spreading poker, this one will have no motivation to reduce the rake. There's no tipping in Korea, and I assume nobody is tipping the dealer after being stung for a $15 rake. |

Re: Poker in Korea
What casino are you talking about? I am going there next month. I want to find a place to play there. The closest casino to me will be Seven Luck.
Anyone know if they have poker? |

Re: Poker in Korea
Seven Luck doesn't spread poker yet, but I've heard that they will be opening a poker room in the near future.
Note that the rake at Walker-hill will be reduced during the APPT (http://www.appt.com/tournaments/seoul/). |
