The World Without Oil
Good evening all you internet la-la-landers. I allowed myself to get a little annoyed earlier at the ever present politics forum backdrop of holier-than-thou-do-gooder-the-US-is-evil-regardless-of-the-realities crowd. Silly of me.
In particular I was annoyed at a post by a clearly clueless individual about how the US kills innocent people everyday for oil. So I thought about what that individual's life would be without oil if he suddenly got his wish and the human race had a moral epiphany and decided it was better that society destroy itself and decend into the stone age lest some unnamed innocent should die directly or indirectly because of civilizations unconscionable use of fossil fuel. Well, it turns out that there is a website out there where just such a scenario is being thought of. Here is their homepage and FAQ. So, as you sit in front of your PC made out of oil, smoking your weed which was transported to you via oil, eating your bag of chips that was grown from corn sprayed with pesticide and packaged all from oil and drink your beer which was probably distilled with heat made from oil, I'd like you to ponder just how good your life is because of oil. More pertinent to the discussion is just how much of that P-O-T, food, computer, car, and booze are you willing to put down because it is so evil to use oil? |

[/ QUOTE ] Since people with oil have more than they could ever use themselves and are very willing to sell it, and people in the US have tons of money to actually buy it, why is it that we have to choose between killing people for oil and not having oil at all? |

Re: The World Without Oil
Why, instead of invading a country and spending hundreds of billions to do it, did we not just take Kuwait's oil? And why is oil still $9089048230984234 a barrel?

[/ QUOTE ] Does anyone believe Saddam wouldn't gladly sell it to the USA couple of years ago? But of course that wouldn't make extreme profits for the elite. who cares about collateral damage - millions of victims and trillion of dollars spent? |

[/ QUOTE ] To be such an expert on economics, you sure don't understand a market very well, do you? History shows that the free market is actually the force which subverts and crushes violence and pillage. |
