Moving to Oklahoma City
100% job related...have to move within the next few months and I'm just wondering if any OOTers live or have lived there (I'm moving from Los Angeles)
What am I in-store for? What areas are good to rent an apartment in? (I'll be living and moving there alone) Price of living? Overall comfort? and of course...local poker rooms? thanks |

Re: Moving to Oklahoma City
There are Casinos in Oklahoma. Also, I'd reconsider moving there.

Re: Moving to Oklahoma City
I was in OKC for a few weeks last year and they have the worst roads I have ever driven on. If there are nice parts to the city I never saw them.

Re: Moving to Oklahoma City
That old downtown area with all the brick buildings was pretty fun to go out in.
These are my pics from my one day in Oklahoma : There were also these amazing giant windmills for generating power by I don't have a pic. |

[/ QUOTE ] Granted I was totally out of it when I drove across country, but I'm pretty sure this was in Texas. EDIT : To fix myself here, I did a little bit of research and apparently, there is a very similar cross in Groom, Texas. I guess that's the one I saw. RE-EDIT : Groom, Texas runs right along 40 so I think this might be that one since it's clear that you're on 40 in the picture. |

Groom is in the panhandle on the way to OKC. Apparently it's the 2nd biggest cross in the western hemisphere. My advice to OP is get a good TV and a Netflix subscription. |

Re: Moving to Oklahoma City
yikes.
LA to OKC seems like it would be a shock, especially if you are being forced to do it for work. |

Re: Moving to Oklahoma City
My mom grew up in Tulsa, and I still have a lot of family there, so I've been in and out of OK for most of my life. Tulsa's not great, but I thought the whole state was pretty much the same. Then I spent a good amount of time in OKC when a long-term gf had to move there for work.
OKC is NOT Tulsa. Far worse. Strip malls as far as the eye can see. I would look to live by the brickyard or whatever that developed downtown area is, if you want anything to do at all. All my info is from like six years ago, FWIW. Cost of living is pretty cheap. I know nothing about the poker scene. Hotter than hell in the summer, winters not too bad but an ice storm will shut the city down for days. You must go to Jimmy's Egg for breakfast, however. |

Re: Moving to Oklahoma City
you are not gonna like it man. but, if you are getting paid the same as or more as you were in LA, you are going to be able to save a ton. way cheaper
