Starting a Chewinggum \"Business\" - Advice Very Welcome
This is my first post in this sub-forum.
And its my first step in the direction of passive income generation. Anyone has to start somewhere, and this is going to be the first mile of the way to feel the pro's and con's of passive income. I try to see how far I can get with the use of candy vending machine. My biggest problem right now is to find a good location, and I'd like you to give me some ideas where you would place your chewinggum machine. The problem is that it is a little machine, and it can't be hanged to a Wall or burrowed into the ground. It has to stand on a table, a shelf or something else. I have some Ideas by now: Schools > Should be obvious. Much Money, many potential costumers. Haircutter (for the guys which are waiting, say have nothing to do and will be affected by the look of the sweet chewinggums) Companys which sell clothings (dont know the eng. word) and got a room for young children > if they cry their parents just buy chewinggum to make them stop Whereever the smell of smoke should be killed. Toy shop's. This was it, now I am looking really forward to hear some of your questions opinions and ideas. Sorry for my bad english, I'm just not on my best right now lol. |

I think I read on another post or a blog or something that it's easier to get locations if you aren't selling gum. Businesses don't want gum machines that aren't making them money because they don't want old gum stuck to everything. You may have more luck getting the machine placed selling things like M&Ms, Skittles, Reese's Pieces, etc.

What's a standard split for the business that lets a person hang his vending machine? 50% of gross proceeds? Or is there such thing as a standard split?

I think it's free at the DMV.

100%. notice how gum is never sold in casinos, even though I always want it. It mucks up the casino.
note: the Bellagio respects its clientèle enough to offer them gum at the gift shop, and in return I don't stick gum anywhere |

What sort of security do you have to keep this small machine from getting stolen?

Vending machines are not passive income. They are a job. It is like a carpenter saying power tools are passive income.
I suggest that you search out people in your area that invested in vending machines and offer to buy their failed businesses out. Find a vending machine operator and offer to work for them, perhaps for nothing (what the college kids call an internship). Find a trade publication for vending machines and subscribe, go to their trade show/expo/whatever. |
