WSOP PLO8 Level of Competition?
Anybody have experience in PLO8 at the WSOP? I'm thinking of playing the $1500 event on June 5. How would the level of competition relate to PLO8 MTT's on Full Tilt or Stars?
Link to the WSOP Tournament schedule is here |

Re: WSOP PLO8 Level of Competition?
It's the first time they've run PLO8 for at least a few years (possibly first time ever). It will be one of the weakest fields in the entire series, but the first levels will be a huge crapshoot. By level 4 you will have needed to double up, so that only gives you so much time to sit and pick off the donks.

Re: WSOP PLO8 Level of Competition?
I'm almost positive this is the first time PLO/8 has ever been spread in the WSOP. I'm just guessing, but most of the live tournament circuit regulars would have very little experience playing this game. Even most of the internet MTT whizzes probably haven't played much. I'd speculate the field will have a mix of complete dead money donks, live tournament specialists playing double-up-or-get-out poker, guys more familiar with limit 0/8 playing very cautiously, guys more familiar with limit 0/8 chasing too many lows and learning that getting quartered is disastrous in PL, and some online PL0/8 specialists who decide to take a flyer on this event but have limited live experience.

Am I the only person who thinks this is going to be an absolute nightmare once people start moving in and there are side-pots and so on ?
If I was dealing I'd call in sick that day ... |

Re: WSOP PLO8 Level of Competition?
I really never realized how abnormal a game it is, but there is a ton of plo8b action in Atlanta. I would guess that there will be at least a handful of guys from my neck of the woods that are going to play this event. the only difference being all their experience has been playing cash games.
As far as dealing the event, as long as the dealers have previous 8b and PL history, they should be fine. One thing to watch out for, as I have seen this more than a few times is that when you 3/4 an all-in pot, make sure that you get the dealer to quarter out what chips you opponent has behind, as I have seen the dealer just quarter the pot and kill the hands, forgetting that the rest of the stacks got in the middle too. Happy hunting! |
