Prize Pool question
I noticed at the PCA how it always said something to the effect of "3% of the prize pool will be retained for the tournament staff." At the time I thought this was the entire rake, but now I'm not sure:
So, is the 3% part of the $25 entry fee, or in addition to the $25 entry fee? If it's in addition to the entry fee, a couple thoughts: 1) This seems like a pretty sneaky way to increase the rake of the tournament - most people probably don't even know or care. 2) They're taking out an obscene amount more than is needed to pay expenses for big buy-in tournaments. 3) The total rake is almost always >5%, even for big buy-ins. Thoughts? |

Re: Prize Pool question
the $25 entry fee goes to the house.. they pocket the money
the 3% is additional, and supposedly goes to the tournament staff like a toke |

Re: Prize Pool question
So the 175 + 25 in the OP is effectively a 170 + 30?
How much effect does this have on the beatability of the tournament? At what point does rake make you steer clear of a tournament? 20%? |

Re: Prize Pool question
you could beat one of these tournaments for a good amount if the rake were $200.

Re: Prize Pool question
i've been told that tournies that do this mean you're not supposed to tip the dealers beccause the tip comes from the fact that they get 3 % of total prize pool which is about what you're supposed to tip when you cash. Anyone know the validity of this because clearly they always ask you for more money no matter what.

[/ QUOTE ] A local hospital (Provena in Champaign, IL) is holding a charity poker tourney the night before I head to Elizabeth, Indiana for the WSOP-C event. Their Main Event has a $150 entry fee with 1st place paying $10,000 I was considering playing in this as a "warm-up", until I discovered only 39% of the entry fees is being paid out in the prize pool. I realize it's a charity event, but since 71% is being skimmed off the top, I figured it's just too steep to overcome. |
