Not raising on the river with the nuts
PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha High, $0.10 BB (9 handed) converter
Hero ($13.65) UTG ($1.90) UTG+1 ($7.90) MP1 ($4.80) MP2 ($11.80) MP3 ($3.90) CO ($1.40) Button ($5.40) SB ($12.60) Preflop: Hero is BB with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 1 fold, UTG+1 calls $0.10, 2 folds, MP3 calls $0.10, CO calls $0.10, 1 fold, SB completes, Hero checks. Flop: ($0.50) 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players) SB checks, Hero checks, UTG+1 checks, MP3 checks, CO checks. Turn: ($0.50) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (5 players) SB checks, Hero checks, UTG+1 checks, MP3 checks, CO checks. River: ($0.50) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players) SB bets $0.5, Hero calls $0.50, UTG+1 calls $0.50, MP3 folds, CO folds. Final Pot: $2 SB has 9s Kc Kd Ts (straight, ten high). Outcome: Hero wins $1. SB wins $1. When my nut card hits and someone bets, my normal reaction is to raise pot hoping it's some kind of idiot. But in the moment, I realized that the bettor was not an idiot (from playing with him before) and so I decided just to call because I knew there was nothing else he could have but the nuts; and I wanted to try to get others to call with lesser holdings. If I raised, it would probably drive others out and increase the rake. By just calling, I managed to get the SB and me $.25 more!!!(before the rake) Just thought I'd share because an interesting moment like this doesn't come up much in these limits. |

Re: Not raising on the river with the nuts
Depends how other player is. If you figure he would have folded if you raised, then you made the correct play. If I wasn't really sure, I probably would have made the minimum raise and try to get a little bit more out of him.

Re: Not raising on the river with the nuts
This is fairly standard, to go for overcalls here. But it's hard to say you won money here; particularly at these limits, one of the players behind you might want to get stacked with a smaller straight. You know the players better than I do, but if there is even a 10% chance of this, you have an easy raise.
