Getting scAyred
After last week's pronouncements of "this doesn't affect us" and "we won't change a thing", now you see:
New article about sportsbooks in CR "I think what you'll see is the public companies will stop offering services to Americans," Canadian sports book magnate Calvin Ayre, owner of Costa Rica-based Bodog sportsbook, told Reuters this week. |

Re: Getting scAyred
I think he is referring to sportsbooks. If this legislation passes it may be a different story, but I can't see service to Americans no longer being offered by any online gambling services. It would be a HUGE chunk of their revenue.

[/ QUOTE ] You better start seeing it, because that's exactly what will happen if this bill becomes law. Losing a huge chunk of their revenue beats going to prison any day. |

Re: Getting scAyred
Its no mystery that People like Lee Jones and Calvin Ayre would have been arrested if they ever stepped foot on US soil for some time now because of the wire act. You think that the house passing this bill changes that? These guys are just going to stop now? Somehow I doubt that many of these countries are going to rush to the aid of the US government to extradite these "criminals" who are in full compliance with local law and are contributing to the local economy. I don't see Costa Rica forking over Calvin Ayre do you? Costa Rica has over 200 online gambling entities that I'm sure draw most of their business from the US. That is a significant portion of their economy and has created a significant amount of jobs in that economy. The same could be said for many other Carribean nations. Not to mention the fact that the UK just regulated online gambling. They are just going to throw these companies to the wolves? I'll concede that its a possibility, but I'm not panicking just yet. This is exactly what the DOJ wants. They want you to be afraid and stop playing. They want the managers of online establishments to be scared into banning US members. Relax. If it happens it happens. You'll still get your money out, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that Mr. Ayre's predictions are correct. Most of the establishments that I've corresponded with in the last couple of days have given me the same response. Something along the lines of "This does not effect our business operations. We will notify you if we decide otherwise." Again, I'm not saying it isn't a possibility, but stop with the paranoia already. Its nauseating to see the DOJ winning the battle...and scaring you is all they can do right now.
Note: The fact that I think we will still be able to play does not mean we shouldn't fight this bill to our dying breath. Contact your congressmen on a regular basis. Although I'm not concerned about being able to play, I am concerned about the drop in profitability of playing should this bill pass. |

[/ QUOTE ] Eurobet poker, which already banned sports betting for US players, has just closed its doors to America, even though the bill has not yet come close to passing. I am afraid we will start seeing a lot of this. If PartyPoker goes, I'm moving to Vegas. |
