Default Best Vegas room for mid limit and small no-limit

Me and a buddy are going in June.
I want to play some 15/30
He's a TV-learned newbie and will want to play low limit or probably donk up a low no-limit game.
We're thinking Wynn, but I'm a little nervous that the games might be too tough for both of us especially during the day.
I am a winner in 10/20 online. He only plays home games and thinks 33 is a monster in NL.
I'm loaning him my copy of SSHE tomorrow, but I'm still worried about him.
Any advice on best place to stay and play (pretty much nonstop Wednesday night thru Sunday morning).

Again this thread? www.allvegaspoker.com and do the research. You're going to get 20 different answers from this group. Use the search as this is discussed 10x a week.

15/30 = Wynn, Bellagio only
10/20 = Mirage and MABYE Caesars once in awhile ONLY.

Low limit: all games are the same, I mean, its low limit.

Sorry to offend.
I guess the wrinkle is that I want to play mid limit, which pretty much limits the rooms to the Wynn, Bellagio, Mirage... and maybe a couple of others. But I don't want my newbie buddy to get chewed up and spit out at low limit.
I'm only basing this on the fact that when I've played 4/8 and 6/12 at the Mirage in the past I thought the games were fairly tight/aggressive for low-limit. I cut my teeth in Tunica though, so maybe it's all relative.

I guess if it's too ugly at the Wynn, we could get our 6 hours in and go somewhere else.

If anyone has any new insight as to the best combo for our situation, I'd be glad to hear it. Otherwise, sorry for wasting precious electrons!

Oh... and how much money should we bring?? (OK OK just kidding!)

The 1/3NL at the Wynn tends to play pretty tight/passive with the explosion from time to time. As long as he doesn't get too carried away he should be fine.

BTW, you need to average 6 hours a day for the rate and if you are sharing the room, that should be pretty easy.

Last time I stayed there, I played a long 12+ hour session and when I checked my "discount" status the next night, I had already cleared it as far as they were concerned and did not need to sit if I didn't want, ya like that is going to happen.

BTW, book a couple of weeks in advance and ask for a "corner" room.

First off, Mirage doesn't spread 4/8. Second, that place is one of the few strip casinos that is full of locals.

As I said, refer to the site I posted. It's mostly tourists playing 2/4 - 4/8 posting room reviews. Most of them are inexperienced (very), so yo will get a good feel for a room there.

Rooms to read: MGM, Aladdin, Excalibur, Ballys, Harrahs for starters.

He isn't going to get "chewed up and spit out" by novice tourists playing low limit. You have a HUGE missconception of what Vegas poker is like.

I agree with Photoc. Look on www.allvegaspoker.com for the specific game spread your buddy will need to learn. I took my son to Vegas back in September and we played alot downtown (very low limit and donk-tastic). Give The Horseshoe and Golden Nugget a spin. You'll find numerous 4/8 games not that tough to play. - Heck - If I can win there, so can you and your bud. Good Luck.

Full of locals? Really? I played 3-6 there in March and I thought the game was pretty soft.

ITS 3/6. just because they live there doesn't make them poker superstars. They play the same game you do...some play it poorly, some play it well. The point is you can't really generalize about a whole casino's limit. Games change from table to table. They will have more than one table going, switch tables if necessary.

OK... thanks for your help. The problem I have with the casinos you mentioned is that other than the MGM I don't think I will find a 15/30 for me.
I only have a limited sample of Vegas play to base my opinions on... so that's why I was asking for some help. Last year I played in a Mirage 6/12 for a couple hours. It was even on a Friday night, but it seemed a lot tighter/tougher than any live game I had previously played in... (Maybe the Tunica 10/20 has spoiled me). But I played in a Bellagio 8/16 on the Wednesday afternoon before the Wynn opened and it was like a Tunica 2/4.
So, I was trying to get a feel if the Wynn tends to play tight like the Mirage game, or loose like the Bellagio game... I'm beginning to realize that maybe I shouldn't base my entire impression of a casino on two individual 3 or 4 hour sessions. But again, that's kinda the whole reason I'm asking for some help from the more Vegas savvy crowd.

Anyway, your comment about the Mirage being one of the few strip rooms being full of locals is helpful... we'll surely stay away from there (even though they have the best weekend poker rate).

In short, I think I'll stop worrying about accomodating my buddy and worry more about finding the best 15 for me.

Thanks for your help.

The problem is, you wont find higher than 4/8 at the MGM. 15/30 is ONLY Bellagio and Wynn.

Another thing, quit worrying about the locals. Just because they're local DOES NOT MEAN they are good players. Why do you think they all sit playing together in 2/4 and 4/8 games? Because they're making 100k a year doing it? Hardly. It's socialization for most of them. The strip, downtown, off strip. south, summerlin, green valley, its all the same. Just a place for them to play poker. As I said, you do have a HUGE misconception of what Vegas poker is really like.

There also shouldn't be this much thought and distress on where to play. All rooms have the same type of players at the same limits. Plain and simple. Pick a spot you like and go there.
