77 paired board

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (4 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is Button with 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. 1 fold, Hero raises, 1 fold, BB 3-bets, Hero calls. Flop: (6.50 SB) J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) BB bets, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero calls. Standard, right? Turn: (6.25 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) BB bets, Hero calls. When do I start believing I'm beat? Should I give a re-stealing unknown credit for at least having a bigger PP, J, 9 or 6 and fold? I generally call down here, folding on the river to a J or 9. Would love to hear a logical explanation of how to approach these spots. River: (8.25 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) BB bets, Hero calls. I guess my call means I think he'll have 22, 33, 44 or air enough to make this +EV. I got no clue. Final Pot: 10.25 BB |

Re: 77 paired board
I'd probably just fold the turn.

Re: 77 paired board
If you are going to fold to a turn bet I think you should instead fold to the flop 3-bet. You're not getting odds to call.

Re: 77 paired board
really player dependent, but I think it's a fold on the turn against players that aren't overly aggressive.

[/ QUOTE ] This is what I was going to say, but depending on the opponent they may check some turn cards, any A/K/Q for example. Then you get a free look at spiking a set. I often fold the flop but sometimes call and fold turn. Just depends on how I'm running lately, probably. |

Re: 77 paired board
This looks like a pretty good flop for your hand. I would normally call and raise most turns in this spot.
Geting 3bet on the flop just really sucks and I'm not sure how I'd react to it either. Usually he'll have at least KJ but who knows - so many people raise those flops with crap that he may just think you're full of it, especially in a 4handed game. I also cap PF. |

[/ QUOTE ] A bet/3-bet line on the flop is much stronger than just a raise of a bet by hero (if positions were reversed). |

Re: 77 paired board
Your raise on the flop makes no sense unless you fold to the three bet.
And calling the three bet and then folding to a turn blank would make no sense either. (The way this is playing out, the nine is a blank.) |

Re: 77 paired board
I find myself taking a more passive line vs opponents I don't know/can't trust. This hand is a great example, by raising the flop and him fighting back puts us in a difficult position of seeing a showdown vs not. We can't know the true line based on the facts, so I prefer to just see a showdown from the start, call call call.
